We are spending a few days in Prague before catching a river cruise in Budapest. Looking for have recommendations on the best way to get there train, plane, bus, or? Than you!
If you pack light take a direct overnight train from Praha (Prague) hl.n station to Budapest departing at 22:43 arriving the next morning at 8:29 and rent a sleeper car: https://www.cd.cz/default.htm.
If you only have one travel day I would fly. It is close to an 8 hour train ride. If you have extra days, consider the train and stop in Vienna to break up the trip.
If the schedule works for you, fly. Door to door it will save you 4 hours and for my taste beats the heck out of sitting in a train for 7+ hours.
If you do go by train, just book through the Czech national site. All the options will be there.
Have a great trip. Don't over think it, enjoy.
I'd take the night train from Prague even if you don't sleep all the way you'll get enough to make it through the next day. It gets you into Keleti in the morning and personally I've used to metro (M2) to go a couple of stops to Astoria which I think is their 7th District. Central and an easy stroll to loads of places. Look for "Brody House" (something a bit different).
Thanks everyone for the tips! We decided to take the pre-river cruise option with a Viking and we’ll leave it up to them to get us to her ship :-).
