Prague suggestions

We were in Prague last week and here are a few suggestions:

We stayed at the Lidi guesthouse which is great (and mentioned in Rick's book). The owners are wonderful and extremely helpful. The guesthouse is in a quite neighborhood that is not many tram stops from downtown. We used tram 17 the most.

The old town square is packed with tourists so we sat at an outdoor restaurant, El Torro, right across from the clock. We just ordered a couple of beers and were able to watch the clock while sitting down under an awning. No trouble seeing the clock since it's up high.

Wonderful gelato at Angelato's, which is a block north of Wenchelslas (sp) Square. Not surprisingly, there were many Italians at Angelatos.

A great restaurant is the U Koura which is within walking distance from the tram stop just before the one for the Lidi guesthouse.

Prague is very beautiful but very popular. Can't imagine what it would be like in July!

I think you mean Lida guesthouse (www.lidabb.eu). I stayed there in 2013 and really enjoyed it. The brothers that run it (one is Jan) really love their town and go out of their way to help you to enjoy it too.

Are you sure the name of the restaurant was U Koura? I googled it but was not able to find it. But there is a restaurant U Kroka at the place you are describing. The name of Wenceslas Square is easy to remember. It's named after good king Wenceslas from a popular Christmas carol. His statue on the horse is at the top end of the square. It's actually more like a wide boulevard than a square.

Sorry about the mispellings. You have them correct for both the guesthouse and restaurant. I always forget to write names down before I write my messages. Becky

I need a non-smoking hotel. Personal Guide Prague recommended the Red and Blue Design Hotel but I am a bit nervous about them because Rick did not recommend and the different room quotes they gave were all over the map. Also aceptable payment methods are confusing. Jana at PGP reassured me that I can pay the euros they quoted me on credit card. I assume PGP is a solid company as Rick recommends them as personal guides.

Has anyone stayed at the Red and Blue Design Hotel? Any problems with them?

I was going to just go with Hotel Julian, but want to take a number of tours, so am trying to save a bit on hotel.

I was listening to Audio Europe "Romantic Prague." I thought the guided recommended U Prince Hotel as having a bar on a balcony with a great view. I can't find that hotel in my guidebook. Please help.
