We will be visiting Prague the first week in August and will be joined by my niece, her husband, and their 4 year old daughter. Looking for some recommendations for dining in the old town. We will be staying in an apartment so we have some flexibility - I'm thinking we will try to have our big meal of the day out, at lunchtime, then smaller meals in the evening in the apartment. Breakfast recommendations also welcome! Thanks!

this link also give lots of good info.
as you will be there in August might be an idea to visit the various markets that are on and indulge in the street food for a bit of fun, the Saturday market on Naplavka is great for this I I often go there for Saturday lunch when in the city, you could also bring stuff to feed the swans ,I always see families doing that.
Thanks Uncle Gus. I've read a few of your replies to other questions and have learned quite a bit from you already! Jason's recommendations for dining with children are pretty dismal. TGIFriday, Pizza, and IKEA wouldn't exactly be getting into the local vibe ;o) That said, we are now thinking that we will stay outside of the center since the kids will be driving from Germany and we will need parking space for their vehicle, so perhaps the options for family dining will improve with location.
I am good friends with Jason, known him for well over 12 years,i will be meeting up with him next month for a few beers so will ask him if he has any other suggestions.I think you can ask him questions via his webpage so might be worth doing that
I do find that you only see kids in places at lunchtimes and seldom in the evenings. Once you find a place to stay we can try and find other places in that local.

this chain restaurant has a couple of units in Prague, one on Wenseslas square and one in the Palladium shopping mall at Namesti Republiky and they are very kid friendly. In the palladium mall and in the big mall at Andel there are are large number of chain restaurants on the top floors and these will in general be family friendly but they are not the type of places I eat in.I like pubs.
Thanks Unclegus - we have now settled on an apartment in Prague 1, but while researching accommodations I was looking at a few VRBO places and one of the owners sent me a great list of places to take kids, including some restaurants with playgrounds and/or babysitters (at brunch). I'm sure that we will be eating most of our dinners in the apartment, but expect most if not all of our lunchtime dining to be done while we are out and about in the city. Love your idea of hitting the markets and trying street food! Thanks again for the ideas and links! Too bad we are leaving on August 6th when you arrive. Maybe we will pass each other in the airport ;o)
pity we will be just missing each other.I am sure you will have a great time. the markets are great fun and there is always something fun to watch, like folk smoking fish ,they also have live fish stun them on the spot, clean gut etc. so you might want to watch out for this in case the young one might get upset seeing something like this.
There are often craft workers like weavers and knitters as well as blacksmiths. Live music is sometimes on the go and of course usually free samples of lots of food.

Naplovka market will be easy walking distance from our apartment, so we will plan on that for sure. As for the fish, my niece might have a problem with it but my grand niece will probably love it! She is a rather hilarious kid.
If going to Naplavka it is just down from the Dancing Building on the opposite side of the road and on the lower level beside the river, few bars and cafes there as well.Take some stuff to feed the swans , quite a few down there. There is a little barge that has a lot of second hand stuff and curios , might be able to pick up an unusual little momento .I was last there on 31st December, freezing cold but I was having a 10.00am beer , lovely stuff.
Thanks, Unclegus. I just skimmed through the 5 hikes in Prague, from a link you posted elsewhere. We will certainly check a few of those out!
from where you are you can take a boat to the Zoo,

you can either get the boat back, walk back or take the bus and metro, something to think about anyway.
It looks like they have some other fun on-water options as well. Thanks for the tip!
