I have an old (2013) version of Rick Steves Prague book. In this version of the book he states that restaurants rip off tourists by serving cheaper versions of the requested dish, adding bogus charges to the bill, and stealing credit card info, so its best to pay with cash. He also states that taxis often try to rip you off. Does the newer version of the book still state these things? Do you feel comfortable paying by credit card there, or do you use cash because you are concerned about your card info being stolen? Have you had restaurants add bogus charges?
We paid by card everywhere during our week in Prague last summer. Never got "ripped off" with cheaper dishes or in any other way. Never had bogus charges. Never had any issues with account security.
Don't know what problems Rick Steves encountered that resulted in these recommendations, but we found no reason to avoid credit card use.
You’re reading about things from more than a decade in the past. That’s a lifetime ago in the world of travel.
I also wouldn’t rely too much on the restaurant prices listed in the book!
