Prague-Mala Strana beer & bites?

Our first trip to Prague is this summer, and we'll be staying in the Mala Strana neighborhood. So excited! Would appreciate rec's for beer pubs/restaurants in Mala Strana or walking distance (1-2km or so).

Also, are reservations generally necessary for dinner? We are early evening diners, so perhaps not?

Unclegus - would appreciate your knowledgeable rec's for pubs in greater Prague, and we'll take transit as needed..... :)

Thanks in advance.

There are so many restaurants and pubs in Mala Strana that I think not even Unclegus tried them all. Obviously me neither. Two memorable pubs for me: U hrocha (At Hippopotamus) - typical classical pub with excellent beer - they have Pilsner Urquell - you would say it does not matter where you drink it, it should taste the same, well, it does not. For some reason I like it the most there. It is on Thunovska Street. The second one is U Glaubitzu (At Glaubitz) at Mala Strana Square (Malostranske namesti). Very good beer. Many years ago I drank there 10 beers (1 beer = half liter - about 1 pint) and I am not beer drinker. Beer drinkers there drink quite more. But whichever pub you choose I think they are all good.

I was in U Glaubicu a couple of weeks ago for the first time, I had intended taking an American friend to the Czech poster museum next door but found it had closed down so we went to u Glaubicu for a beer.i was very impressed , lovely place and though we didn't eat there I will be going back to try the food in August with a couple of friends.

A new place I tried just the other week is Beer Time, it is at Andel very easy tram journey from where you are staying,13 craft beers on tap and all the ones I tried were great ,food is decent though not exceptional and prices are good though some of the beer are a bit higher priced.Lovely courtyard to sit in.Liked it so much I went twice.

great little place that does Radegast beer from the tank I think the only place in Prague that does it. food is very good and prices great , lovely quirky outdoor courtyard too.
lots of other places in this area but these are the ones I have eaten and drank in very recently.
further afield is this place at the Brevnov monastery.

been there loads of times (booking is essential) great beer made in the monastery and superb food, I declared that the meal I had there two weeks ago was the best of the trip,Roast duck breast with 2 types of cabbage and larded dumplings.

this is a boat that is also a brewery,ok it does not sail the river but great place, top deck outside during the summer is a grill restaurant, main deck is a standard restaurant with a small range of classic Czech dishes in a more modern style, downstairs is the beer hall style place doing classic Czech pub grub and beer snacks.
6 beers on tap all of which are lovely.

Thanks so much, Ilja and Unclegus! I really appreciate your suggestions. We'll be in Prague for a week so we'll have time to try them all as we wander about.....

Malostranská Beseda right on the Mala Strana Square (Malostranské Náměstí 35/21) has the best goulash soup I've ever tasted. Then again, it was a freezing cold December day when we were there, maybe that's why it tasted so good.

Letna park beer garden is fairly easy to get to from where you are, tram to Letenska namesti and a short walk, or metro 1 stop to Hradcanska and a tram a couple of stops to letnska namesti.
Great views over the city , a choice of about 5 beers all from the big breweries and some half decent street food. there is also a good restaurant within the beer garden if you want to eat at a higher level.
A true Prague experience and where you are likely to find me whenever it is warm in the city, well even when it is freezing ,I was there on New Years day to watch the fireworks and one of the beer kiosks was open and doing a roaring trade,I only had a couple of beer though.

Thanks, Unclegus. Looks like we could walk over to Letna Park from where we'll be staying. Beer with a view sounds great!

Also noted that the Prague Beer Festival is being held in that park in May. Have you ever attended that festival? Worth visiting on a future spring trip to Prague?
