Prague in winter - best part of the city to stay in? Hotel recommendations

We will be going to Prague December 27 to 30.
I've never been there and I'm trying to figure out where to stay in the city.
Also, if you have any hotel recommendations, please let me know. Thank you!

What's your hotel budget per night in Czech korunas or dollars (US? Canadian?)? The current exchange rate is over 21 korunas per US dollar. Are there two of you?

We have stayed twice at Hotel U Pava. It is one of those hotels we had to get back to. It is in the historic old city and close to everything, including the Charles Bridge. It is truly a very special hotel, with a great breakfast room and incredible interiors! https://hotel-upava.cz/en/home/

I often stay in the area around I P Pavlova metro, very popular area with visitors to the city , 2 metro stops from train station, metro and trams to all parts of the city .i was in the area in January this year stayingin the Galileo hotel rooms were a bit small but okay and nice and warm for a bitterly cold January and in a couple of weeks @m staying in the Ibis Wenseslas Square ( recently totally renovated), have stayed there before it was renovated and it was fine.In the last 18 months or so have also stayed in the Clarion which was very good, the Beranek directly opposite the Clarion, really liked that place, very modern room and I was in an area that had obviously been recently refurbished. I stayed in the Hotel Tyl and though it is totally old world charming the rooms just did not match up with the common areas of the hotel and I would not stay there again. That gives you quite a few ideas. There are numerous bars ,restaurants, Cafes etc you will be spoiled for choice and as I have said the transport links are fantastic , if you are 65 or over public transport in the city is free ( just keep you passport handy to-prove age.) there are numerous other hotels in the area of various standards but the ones I mention are all 3 or 4 star. All have breakfast options and all but the Ibis have tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms though I do believe the Ibis now do but have not been able to confirm that.

There are 2 of us. Would like to stay around $200/night or less if possible.

I'm curious about which neighborhood is appealing for charm and not be too busy.

marnamc2 mentions Hotel U Pava, never stayed ther but it is in a fantastic location and ideal for a short stay for a first time visitor, not sure if it will be in your price range but could be especially if you are sharing a room. The area I have mentionrd is a nuch more residential area within walking distance of Wenselas Square and the Old town and prices will be well within your budget if sharing a room, if you want seperate room then it is possible but your choices will be more limited but certainly not inpossible, it is just the run up to new year prices do tend to increase. I trael to Prgaue a lot alone or with friends but we always have seperate rooms and the places I have mentioned would be in your ball park range especially if sharing a room and that will include breakfast.
