My husband and I are picking up a new Audi in Germany and road tripping through Europe. We want to avoid staying in the City center due to parking issues and are looking for a decent hotel with parking outside of the main city but close to public transportation. Please let me know of any suggestions.
A few years ago, I stayed in the south part of Prague, in a place, Lida, recommended by Rick. I though it was nice, and the two brothers that run it speak English and are enthusiastic about their town.
It was in the suburbs. I didn't have a car so I can't say for sure, but it seemed there were a lot of cars parked on the streets nearby, so I don't think it is a problem. Write and ask them. It was a short walk to a station for one of the three metro lines in town.
There are many pensions outside of the center. Here are two I have personal experience with: pension Hattrick. It has gated parking and very reasonable prices. It takes about half an hour to get to downtown by public transport. First by bus then by subway.

Pension U Hofmanu. You get to downtown quickly by subway. http://www.uhofmanu.cz
