Prague for 3 days

I will be traveling in Europe for 18 days at the end of August and beginnign of September. Our 2nd to last stop will be Prague for 3 days. We will be arriving the night before.

I am currently in the process of planning the whole trip out. Any hotel suggestions???

Prague Sites: Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town (Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock, the Carolinum, the Municipal House and the Estates Theater), Church of the Virgin Mary, Old- New Synagogue, Old Jewish Cemetery, Lesser Quarter

Hotel suggestion? Price range? Location? Could it be pension? Apartment? Hotels in the very center (Old Town, Lesser Quarter) tend to be more pricey, and noisy (drunk tourists). Hotels in nearby residential neighborhoods are generally cheaper and usually quieter, some of them still in walking distance or you use metro or tram.

All of our hotel recommendations are in Rick's guidebooks. If you're still set on your whole original list of destinations, then they're not all covered in one book (e.g., not in Best of Europe), but there are smaller city books and snapshot editions available.

$150 a night is at the top end of my budget. I would like to stay in Old Town if possible or some plave where I can walk to all the sights or at least most of them.

We stayed at Hotel Julian for several nights in May 2014. It was recommended in the Rick Steves' Guidebook and I also highly recommend it. The hotel is beautiful and the staff very helpful. St Vitus Cathedral inside the Prague Castle grounds is amazing. We were able to view the inside of the astronomical clock on a special tour and that was fascinating. Charles Bridge was too crowded with vendors for my taste but still a good experience. I wished we had more time to walk around this beautiful city.

We found the Green Garland Pension (U zeleného vence s.r.o. pension@uzv.cz ) in the RS Prague guidebook. 5 nights cost us 7000 CZK for 2 persons including a very nice breakfast. The 1400 CZK per night was the February 2012 rate including VAT and local fees/taxes. Great location a short walk to the Clock and Charles Bridge.

We also used the RS Guide to set attraction priorities.

P.S. One benefit of February travel was lesser crowds at the Clock and Bridge and we didn't see suspicious characters trying to pin us in at every attraction.
