Prague city tour recommendations etc

Hello-we will have a couple days in Prague at the beginning of our trip. Our first time there. We arrive from the US on Sunday morning (May 20) and leave on Wednesday morning, so we have our arrival day (check-in/jet-lagged, etc) and 2 full days. I wasn't going to plan anything for arrival day, but thought we would explore on our own, if we were up for it. We are staying at the Guesthouse Lida (in Podoli), after reading about it here. My first question is if there is anything near us (easily walkable) that would be worth seeing if we decided to stick close by on our first day; or should we take public transport to Old Town and explore there? I was also looking at full or half day walking/bus/river cruises to get a brief overview of the city, since we aren't there for long, maybe on day 2. I was curious if anyone has taken one that they really enjoyed? Will be 4 of us (2 kids: 12 and 14). I'm also not opposed to doing our own walking tour, which we did in Rome and Florence (via the RS guidebook). I have never done a 'free' tour but I know there are some in Prague, I'd rather just pay for one and be in a smaller group. And I thought a river cruise would be fun...any other suggestions for our almost 3 days are welcome. We definitely want to see the Jewish quarter and the museum and cemetery so we will be doing that one day, not sure if that's a whole day or not. A trip to Terezin hasn't been ruled out but I'm not sure I want to use one of our days to do that yet. I also know there is a Jewish holiday so a lot of the Jewish sites will be closed on Sunday and Monday as far as I can tell. Thanks!

First thing we do is take the "Free Walking Tour" of any city in Europe. Tour guides work for tips.
Then we sign up for their Pub Crawl or Nightlife Tour when they show you the local restaurants and beerhalls that are authentic and reasonably priced. With very diverse people, those tours are a ball.

Hello, you may have one of walking tours (free, not free). You can easily find them on Celetna street right near Tyn Church, you dont need to book for it, they are always there. But the tour covers little area and you should have 2-3 different tours to cover all areas. If you want to explore all historical city, I highly recommend you E-scooter or Segway tour, which you can do with all family and cover all historical areas in half day. Here is the website of the best rated company in Prague on Trip Advisor, pragueonsegway.com

Thank you-that is very helpful and I will check those out.
I have tentatively reserved a tour to Terezin on day 2 with Pavel Batel or one of his colleagues. That will be an all day excursion-any thoughts on this? That leaves us arrival day (partial) and one full day to see the city. Obviously it's not enough to see everything but is the Terezin tour worth using one of our days in Prague? My daughter is interested in visiting a concentration camp and this is probably the only chance we have on this trip. Thanks for the feedback!

Terezin is worth a full day, it is an hour each way by bus and it is a big site so takes a while to get round everything, having a guided tour is a good idea.I was last there a couple of years ago but did not give myself enough time for it as I had to meet friends in Prague in the early evening. I will be going back with friends in August spending the whole day there.

Thanks Unclegus- I think we will take the day trip to Terezin, as a guided tour. i think we will learn the most that way.

We toured Terezin with Pavel and felt that it was well worth the time and money. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about ensuring that his clients learn as much as possible about Terezin.

We'll be in Prague next fall and would be interested in visiting the Terezin camp. Who is Pavel and how do I reach him?

Thanks!

We toured Terezin a few years ago with a company named Terezin Private Tours and they picked us up at our hotel. There were 8 of us so we had a mini bus and the wonderful tour guide gave us info on the way there so we were more prepared. The Terezin Camp is very interesting and we went to see another work camp very near there in the same area. I've also been to Auschwitz which is moving but if you don't have time to go that far, I would highly reommend Terezin and it is very worth the time taken. Our contact was - Mgr. Petra Černá, Terezin Private Tours office, www.terezin-private-tours.com Good luck!
