Prague - city pass options

I'll be in CZ at the end of the month with my wife. Starting the trip with a few days down south site seeing in Trebon and Chesky Krumlov. After that we head up to Prague for 5 nights. Realistically it will be 3 full days in Prague dedicated to site seeing, we are doing one day trip outside the city (still mulling options, want to keep it to no more than a 2 hou train ride, recomendations welcome!).

Regarding Prague, we do generally like to hit the historic sites and I follow RS' guidebooks. I see that there are actually multple options /versions of a "City Pass". Has anyone used one recently and did you find it worth it?

Thanks !
Kevin

Hi Kevin - my wife and I spent 5 days in Prague back in 2012 (time flies), did lots of sightseeing, and did not use a City Pass. In fact, I don't recall buying a single advanced ticket or timed entry; however, we were there off-season 12 years ago. RS advice is always to crunch the numbers to see if the discount is worth it, often with the constraint of having to use it on consecutive days, etc.

Kutna Hora was a great day trip. Enjoy Prague!

I havent tried the one in Prague, but generally speaking, unless you are a museum hound they dont pay for themselves. But do get a public transportation pass, that will be worth the small investment.

We spent a month in Prague in May and never used the pass, but did look into it for the length of our stay. It didn't seem like it would save any money or time based on what we wanted to see.

I did a break down of the two most popular city cards in Prague i.e. the Cool Pass and the Prague Visitor Pass. They do pay for themselves quite quickly if you plan realistically. You'll find a lot of main attractions are the same on both but each card is aimed at different interests depending on if you want discounted attractions (Cool) or towers/galleries/transport (Visitor). There are some tips for making the most of your car i.e. avoid Mondays and check opening/closing times to extend the day. https://livingprague.com/prague-attractions/city-card-comparison/. Hope that helps.
