Prague city guide

Hello all,
My husband and I will be visiting Prague on our own next August (2019) ... I have noted that my RS guidebook lists several guides for Prague. We would like to hire one as we always seem to learn a bit more with one. We will be in Prague for 3 days. Does anyone have experience hiring the guides mentioned in the guidebook or maybe from another source? Which area really needs a guide... the castle quarter .......old town ( the Jewish quarter)... or other area. Or are we ok on our own? Any and all input welcome.
by the way....we are renting a car and traveling on our own from Berlin then on into Austria so I'm thinking mostly of in town walking guides.
Thanks for your time.

the above companies are not private tour guides but I am sure they can arrange private tours, but they do small group tours which makes things much more personal .
Both the owners of these companies often come on this forum and help with the questions that get asked and I can personally vouch for the standard of their tours.
Have you arrange parking for your car whilst in Prague, you won't need one in the city.

Unclegus mentioned Living Prague Tours. This is run by Jason who we had the pleasure of his knowledge of Prague and the Jewish quarter. We only had 2 in our group besides my husband and myself and would highly recommend him. Please check out his web site.

We just returned from Prague and used both of the guides/companies mentioned by Uncle Gus. We were extremely pleased with both.
LivingPrague tours are limited to 6 people. Jason is very personable and knowledgable about the city, having lived there for 20 years. We took the Jewish Quarters tour/hidden secrets of Prague.
Naked Guides have a total of 8 people per tour. We took the Historical Tour with Marcus, the founder of the company. What we especially appreciated was the map he gives everyone, places to eat included metro or tram stop. Although there was some overlap with both tours, the information given differed and complemented each other. We were glad to have chosen those two tours.
Marcus' tour ended in Letná Park, and since it was a Sunday, my husband and I walked to the Beer Garden for lunch. Great way to spend Sunday afternoon.

Hello everyone from sunny South Lake Tahoe!
Thank you to everyone for your input. I've written everything down all will be checking these ideas out more in the next few weeks.
With some more searching through the forum......I've found that I am not the only one interested in good guides.
We will be staying at Dum u velke boty right across from the German Embassy in the Little Quarter and paid parking is available nearby. I know we won't need a car in town.... this is will be day 21-24 of a 70 day adventure. Thank goodness my husband will be doing the driving!!! I'm the planner and navigator!
Oh... one more question. We have friends who have visited the National Museum and really liked it. The RS guide seems to feel that visiting there is really not worthy of our time..... Do you have any thoughts on this?
Thanks again.

the national Museum at the top of Wenseslas Square has been undergoing massive refurbishment over the last few years, the scaffolding was just removed about a week ago and the place is looking amazing though I have only seen photos but I am back in Prague next week so will get to see it for real. Not sure when the museum actually reopens but sure it is soon.It is an mazing building and worth going in just to see the interior ( the staircase at the entrance is superb), no idea what the exhibitions will be like but that will be fun to find out.

To carol , Letna Park Beer garden is my no 1 favourite place in the city, you will often find me there when I am in the city ,great place for a relaxing beer at the end of a busy day or to meet friends for a drink on a warm evening, the views over the city are just stunning.I even spent New year there to watch the fire works.

Don't know how much you are paying for your parking. You're on the number 12 tram route so you've got the option of using the P&R at Holesovice as you'll enter the city from the north (via D8). The stop closest to your hotel is Malostranske Namesti. 24 minutes on the tram direct. Total cost is CZK100 per night and CZK20 per day.

Praguewalker.com would be a good place to start. The owner of the company, Katka is a Rick Steves guide and she is excellent. She was our guide for The Best of Eastern Europe and my wife and I would love to have her as a guide on another itinerary.

I'd also like to put in a plug for Living Prague tours. I took a tour with Jason when I was in Prague earlier this year. He was wonderful and very knowledgable. I ended up being the only one to book that particular tour, and he ran it anyway, so I ended up with a personal tour!

In addition to that, I hired a private guide for the castle quarter and the Jewish quarter. My particular guide seemed in a hurry to point out so many things in the castle district that I felt like I would have been better off seeing that area on my own. I do feel like it was a benefit in the Jewish district though.

We too toured with Jason from Living Prague tours. He was wonderful. We're a family of five and booked Jason for a private tour. We visited Old Town square, the Jewish Quarter, Lesser town, Kampa Island and the outside of Prague castle area. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to my query. I have most of my Prague planning done and really look forward to exploring the city that I have heard so much about from friends who have had the great opportunity to visit.
