My husband and I will be heading to Prague in a couple of weeks and are trying to decide if we should book a tour or tour guide for Prague Castle or just see it on our own. Any suggestions from previous travelers?
The Castle complex is a huge area and takes quite a while to see round.pesronally i would buy a tour ticket and do it on my own visitng the various places and taking the time I want in them.
There are 3 circuits you can buy tickets for so have a look and decide what you want to do, you can use the tickets over 2 days if this helps.

Also remember there is security to go through to get into the complex and it can take some time especially from the Prazsky Hrad entrance (this is where the main tram stop is and where all the tour bus groups enter).I usually go through the main entrance that is in a direct line from Pohorelec that yopu can see on this map, never had more than a minutes wait there.

this company does a night tour of the castle area that may be of interest to you.

this company includes the castle public areas in it's 3in1 tour so have a look at it might cover what you want.
I can recommend both these companies.
We did it on our own. I thought there was plenty of written material for English speakers. I would do a fair amount research so you know exactly what you want to see. St. Vitus is amazing and Golden Lane was fun with great views at the end. I was there in January, you will find it crowded in June. For me personally, the only merit of a tour guide would be to navigate thru people and perhaps cut lines?
Thanks for that input!
