We will be in Prague in May. I have been unable to find a link to purchase the tickets (Circuit B) online and print out to take with me. Does anyone know if you can do this online to avoid having to purchase on site? I read somewhere that the security line is the line that is very long. Any tips to reduce time in security line or ticket line once you get through security? Thank you!
Yeah try this link
https://www.ticketportal.cz/default.aspx
Jazz+Travels - I found that link too and was even able to put tickets in a cart. I set up an account, but for whatever reason, I can't pay for them. Have you used that site? If so, did you have any issues trying to buy the tickets? Thanks!
as far as I am aware you cannot buy tickets online for the castle.I would suggest you get to the castle area as early as you can ie about 9.00am you should have no problems with security queues and with lines for tickets.I have a friend who is a tour quide in the city and he says that after about 10,30 you can expect 20-30 minute waits to get through security., the entrance below the castle is much quieter but you have a fairly stiff uphi;ll walk to get there and a bit of a walk to the main castle sights.I am back in Prague in late march and then again late June and will have a look at queues in th castle area if I am around that area.
The queue is not to buy admission tickets, but rather for the security check. Therefore, there is no advantage to buying your tickets online. Either get up there early in the morning while the queues are shorter, or go on a night time tour when there are no queues at all.
The main draw of the castle is the cathedral, and so if you want to enjoy that, I recommend that you're there at 9am as soon as they open the doors. That way you'll be able to enjoy the cathedral while it is (relatively) empty, before the mob arrive. If you're looking for something really special, then go to Mass in the cathedral. (Monday to Saturday at 7am and 8.30 on Sunday). You're not allowed take photos or wander off during mass (you don't have to partake in the service, you can just sit and reflect), but it is a rare opportunity to actually see the building being used for its intended purpose.
Marcus,
Thank you for the wonderful info especially about the mass opportunities and that would be an incredible experience! Can I ask you a followup question? You say to be in line by 9:00 when they open at the cathedral. Rick's book says the same thing. But I am wondering if they will process the line through security earlier at the castle entrance, so I can get my tickets and then hurry off to St. Vitus. Should I be in security line at 8:00? or some time earlier than 9? I know it sounds silly, but I just want to be in the door early and don't mind getting up early. And if we decide to attend mass at 7:00, is there a security line we would need to plan for timing-wise?
Thank you!
Prague Castle opens daily from 6am until 10pm.
There will be no queue at security at 6.55am. If you manage to make it to heading to 7am Mass, it is likely that there will be more clergy present than parishioners, so you might even up the balance a little.
If you want to get into the cathedral at 9am, then make sure you're arriving at the castle by 8.45, so you can do your security check. If you determined to get in the door of the cathedral at 9am, rather than 9.03, buy your ticket online so you don't have to wait for the ticket office to open. Although that might be taking things too far.
Another option how to avoid long security line: You can catch the streetcar #22 at National Theater (or anywhere where it stops) direction Bila Hora and get off at Prazsky Hrad. You will get to the Castle from the back and security line there is substantially shorter. Also you will spare yourself from walking uphill.
