Has anybody taken this tour? We are looking at these tours to gain insight into Czech beers and see some microbreweries. Would we just be better off doing some research beforehand and finding some local pubs/breweries and visiting on our own, or are these tours worthwhile?
I have never done beer tour in Prague. I just googled beer tours in Prague and think if you choose right it could be fun and interesting. I have friends in Prague so we do it on our own but they are natives of Prague. After reading about all of those tours I think next time I should do it.
We took the beer tour a week ago after first taking their "free walking tour" during the day. See: NewPragueTours.com.
They took us to two large beer halls and then to a restaurant where we could get something to eat. Then, they finished at a large nightclub that had an all you can drink special--1 hr. for something like $5. Most places we went to had large copper beer pots, and the breweries delivered beer in bulk tanker trucks.
We had about 15 in our group, and they were a diversified bunch of English speakers from all over the world. The beer tour was well worth the time, and the group of people were quite enjoyable to be around.
I would suggest taking such a tour on your first night in town so you could go back to the places you enjoy most. And of all items you spend money on in Prague, the only really inexpensive thing is beer.
Pretty timely post. I just got an email from Lonely Planet: "Instead of cracking a can at home, why not search out one of these boozy hotspots?," then lists Prague first.
We took the tour a couple years ago and found it to be a waste of money. They take you around to a couple pubs that are nothing special. The food was horrible. Wander around different areas and sample the awesome beer and people watch. Also check out the web site www.ratebeer.com
