Good for them however I'm not sure how much of an impact it will have. When I was in Prague last a few years ago (ironically with a group of male friends) we saw a lot of stag groups that weren't part of an organised pub crawl but they were still fairly obnoxious.
I don't think there will ever be a solution to control such behaviour without impacting on people who are able to visit several pubs in one night without causing problems.
Yes I imagine the ‘drunken tourists’ that they are hoping to dissuade would not be part of an organised pub tour as, like most people, they are quite capable themselves of going from one bar to another one.
Ironically it’s probably the type of tourist that they are hoping to attract that would be on an organised pub crawl tour.
they are not banning them totally just banning them after 10pm at night, many of these Pub Crawl companies will just change their format and have them starting early and then to finish at a night club for 10pm from which the group members will be on their own.
I am a regular traveler to Prague but have never been on one of these pub crawls, just not my scene though many years ago I did a beer tour where we visited 3 pubs over a few hours having a beer in each of them and a meal in one, very pleasant evening which finished about 10pm.
I do remember years ago the number of stag and hen parties as well as various large groups from football, cricket and rugby clubs just overwhelming some areas of the city but these groups have greatly reduced over the years.
Several years ago I read an article on a city that had stopped these tours and it actually did seem to help. It didn’t reduce the number of drunks but basically what they said was they got to one place and just stayed there until they passed out. without somebody sober to help move them along they weren’t that organized
My first visit to Prague was not long after the wall fell. It was early April, still snowing, and walking the streets left you covered in coal ash. Nothing had a fixed price, from taxis to hotels, food and beer were cheap, and the girls were very friendly with anyone who spoke English. I loved it.
About 20 years ago the West had finally invaded with major hotel chains, Starbucks and the Hard Rock Cafe, and signs in multiple languages.
The last time I was there, staying in a very nice boutique hotel, spending 10 times what I paid in the late 80's for everything, it reminded me more of Amsterdam than the city of my memories. There were numerous English stag and hen parties wandering the streets after midnight; drunk, loud, and unsanitary. I haven't been back. Which is too bad, because Prague is a wonderful city to walk at night if the weather is decent.
