Prague and overnight stay outside in 5 days

Hello. Greetings from Malaysia!

I need advice on our upcoming trip. Our first time to Central Europe. But not the first time to Europe.
We are planning a June 2018 short holiday trip for the family of 5 (my husband and I, my mom (75 years old) and 2 gals (10 & 12).

Out tentative itinerary:
Travel date: 8-15 June 2018.
Arrive: Frankfurt, Friday (8/6) (to be in Frankfurt from Friday till Sunday)
Travel to: Prague, Monday (11/6)
We have 5 days in Central Europe.
ETD Prague, 15/6 to London via air

My questions will be based on having only 5 days to travel, therefore, it has to be the fastest and wish for the cheapest options.

Questions:
1) What is the best way to travel to Prague?
- We will rent a car while in Frankfurt and do not mind driving to Prague if that is the best option.

2) What is the best mode of transport while in Prague?

3) Good places to visit, apart from buildings and churches?

4) If we want to make an overnight trip outside Prague, where is the good place/ best option to go?
- with public transport or with a car

5) Any recommendation for a castle stay for a night? We have done a couple of castle visits but this time, we would like to stay for a night.

6) IF we drive to Prague from Frankrut, any suggestions for a good stopover.

Hope this forum is able to advice so we can make a more concrete plans.

Thank you and have a nice day!

Renting a car in one country and dropping it in another usually comes with a high one way drop fee. Have you explored this?

Also there may be restrictions on where you can go with a rental car, even when you return it to the pick up city/country.

The best way to travel from Frankfurt to Prague is to fly. Best mode of transport in Prague is public transport: subway, trams, buses, trolleybuses. Good places to visit apart from buildings and churches are parks. Overnight trip: one of these: Cesky Krumlov, Karlovy Vary and Loket, Olomouc, Brno. There is a hotel Buchlov right next to castle Buchlov. For more look here:

Ilja nailed key points. We had a rental car for a similar, but longer, visit in September 2017. On several occasions we encountered the dreaded "stau" (traffic jam -- often 30 minutes of no movement) on the German autobahns. (An all day drive from Bavaria to Frankfurt was particularly frustrating.) I think rail or air will serve you better given your itinerary. Public transportation in Prague is easy, even fun.
