We are spending a few days in Prague prior to the start of our RS small group tour. I'm reading that credit cards are widely accepted, and wondering if we really need to get local currency. I'm curious as to others' experiences of needing cash in Prague.
Credit cards are great until the card readers don’t work. I have needed cash on most of my trips.
Specific to Prague, when I was there last year, the card readers at one of the museums was down and so they could only accept cash.
I always get cash from home before I travel.
Another option is to use an ATM after arrival. Just make sure it’s a bank owned machine.
Thanks so much! This helps.
I spent five days in Prague last year. Never got any local currency. I'll be returning to the Czech Republic next month. Smaller towns. I will probably pick up a little local currency from an ATM when I get there. Or I might wait until I need it. On va voir....
Ditto. 5 Days there last April, no cash. And if you are senior transit is free.

It’s also a good resource for other topics too.
I also used the Honest Guide YouTube channel as a resource for my trip last year.
I dont think it's a question that you can get by without cash just about anywhere these days, but often its handy to have some.
I took some leftover currency from other countries and changed them at the ariport just to have some in hand. Yes the exchange rate was terrible, but it was small quantities of Swiss Francs and Polish Zloty that I didnt expect to use soon.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and experiences. All of your responses were helpful.
