Hello all! My wife and I will be doing a RS tour in April and are arriving in the evening around 9pm. I know that we can get free public transport because we are seniors but we have big bags. Also we are a bit nervous because we are arriving at night. Does anyone know this company? This company charges $35.00 which seems fair, I know there are UBERs but to be honest we want to have a meet & greet type of service. Thanks in advance!
.....we are seniors but we have big bags.
You may want to read about RS tours and handling your own luggage...everywhere!!!
There won’t be any confusion or delay at night trying to connect with someone holding a sign with your name on it at PRG airport if you simply get an official taxi at the airport taxi stand into Prague’s city center for about €30.
Sometimes pre-arranged drivers are late, sometimes they have the wrong name on the sign they hold and the “convenient” pickup becomes anything but that.
I like Welcome Pickups, always find them professional and helpful. I second the post about "big bags". You'll be lugging those around by yourself and up stairs, so you may want to pack a bit lighter.
https://www.praguetransport.com/, this company might be the one you are refering too. Used them many times over the years, actually run by an American ex-pat and his Czech wife, excellent company and they won't let you down.
Kenko, the official taxi at the airport is now Uber and you book either via the app or using one of the many consoles at the arrivals area exit.
Thank you UncleGus, yes that is the one.
also thanks for the info about the bags, I should post my wife's phone number and you can call her and tell her :-). I would be happy to travel with a carry on!
Transfer from the airport to centre of town is roughly CZK800 if using pickup or official taxi. The cheapest option would be Bolt but for the money you'd save you have the hassle of booking, arranging where you would board and I don't put Bolt in the "meet and greet" category. And just to note. Seniors (people who have had their 65th birthday) qualify for free "personal" transport i.e. you would still need to pay to transport the bags (CZK20 luggage ticket for each large bag). So I second Uncle Gus's recommendation for praguetransport.com.
UncleGus, you are an example of how well this forum can work.
And each to their own. Some love the meet and greet, some love public transportation and some want a taxi. Thats the reason the choices exist.
Mr É .............., i travel to Prague several times a year and know my way around well, if I travel on my own I usually use public transport ( free as I am over 65), but if with a small group as i often am then private pick up or return is a good option and the price is fixed unlike Uber that can charge different prices depending on how busy they are.
Every place is unique and things change and AI just can't replace a real person with experience.
My wife and I were in Prague for two weeks through the end of March, and used Prague Airport Shuttle Transfer. We were very happy with the service in every respect with this company. The drivers were where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there, and both of were great guys ... eager to talk about their knowledge of Prague, quick to laugh, and generally both just likeable guys with whom I'd love to drink a pilsner. We came the year before, and used another service, for which the drivers were nice enough but not fun. One of them seemed in a hurry to get done wth us, and did not help us get a heavy bag the 30 steps up to the elevator landing ... and one of them was a young Russian man who spent a large part of the trip defending Putin's invasion of Ukraine, so that by the end of the trip I was definitely ready to part ways. Beyond that, the price was $5 more on the inbound and $10 more on the outbound trips.
Meanwhile, Chris the American ex-pat who runs Prague Airport Shuttle, was Mr. Friendly and Johnny-on-the-spot with helpful information about our trip before we went. So yeah, I recommended this company. We're planning to go back next year for another round of Prague reality, and we'll definitely use Prague Airport Shuttle again.
Each of the 4 RS tours we have been on have an opportunity to do laundry about half-way through.
Pack MUCH lighter ! You likely will roll/carry luggage on cobblestone streets and UP stairs. Although three flights have been the most we had to carry bags (-:
thank you kansasrod, we have downsized! I appreciate everyone's comments very much.
