Pilsen

We are on the Sept 5 Central Europe tour. We plan on getting there two days earlier than the RS tour. Has anyone taken the train from Prague to Pilsen and toured the beer brewery there? If so, is it worth it?
Thanks!

Yes, been there, done that. Mildly interesting, but still just a beer factory tour. There are a few other sights in the main square that are worth visiting.

yes, been there numerous times and will be there again at the end of this month, Trains take about 90 minutes and there usually at least one an hour.wak from the train station to brewery takes less than 10 minutes, you will see the brewery on the right hand side as you arrive in Plzen station.Facinating tour and you end up in the old cellars for a drink of the beer straight from the huge wooden barrels. You can also add in the bottling hall, they take you on a little bus to that area, will add about 30 minutes on the the whole tour , you finish the main tour at the gift shop which is huge and very good. There is a huge restaurant in the brewery Na Spilce, they did it up a few years ago but it is a lovely place, there is a bar/ snack area at the entrance if you just want a beer but i recommend heading downstair to the main beer hall, you can get a beer there or a full meal
Please book on line so you can get the tour time you want , it can be very busy.
There is a lot to do in Plzen not just the brewery so have a look. the city centre is about a 10-15 minute walk from the brewery
Top tip take an extra layer with you if doing the brewery tour as you are in the cellars for a while and it is cool down there 6-8C

Yes, this is definitely worth it- had a great time visiting the Pilsner Urquell brewery many years ago. You get to see where pilsner was invented and the restaurant is great.
