orchestral concert Prague

Hi.
We will be in Prague in early July for just a few days. We really want to see a musical performance, but it looks like most of the orchestra is out in July. I found two concerts that appeal to me, but I want as authentic an experience as possible, and I would like the best musicians for the off season. Any thoughts or recommendations on which of these will be best? Thanks in advance!

OR

  • Tues., July 2: Prague Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra
    • Musicians from leading Czech orchestras perform famous classic melodies. Organ virtuoso Aleš Bárta sounds the famous Týn organ and everything is crowned by the soprano of Andy-Louise Bogz, soloist of the National Theatre.

How about both?! Seriously, I can't advise, but the photo of the Clementine draws me in...

Most likely they are both worthwhile. Besides, sometimes to see these buildings a concert is the best way. I agree with Janet-both!

I went to the Klementium Mirrored Chapel concert last year. The venue is gorgeous and the musicians are excellent especially the organist. If I remember right, I bought my ticket online the day of the concert or maybe it was the day before.

Here's the excerpt from my trip report:
The Baroque chapel is beautiful with frescoes on the ceiling and mirrors inset into the beams. The concert consisted of a talented string quartet, a fantastic organist playing an 18th century organ and a soprano. Unfortunately the program was excerpts from Baroque composers’ greatest hits, not unlike a PBS infomercial.

With a couple days in Prague, I'd attend both concerts. The Klementium was only an hour and started at 6pm.

Have a great trip!

Thank you so much for all the info! It sounds like we need to try to do both! :)

We were in Prague in May and heard the opening concert of the Prague Spring Festival live-streamed in a park, and the next night we heard a French Horn competition in Dvorak Hall at the Rudolfinum. These concerts were highlights of our trip! Music is a great way to experience a city. I would also urge you to try to get tickets for both concerts!
