One night+full day+half morning -Prague

Hello everyone!

My husband and I will be arriving ar Prague airport around 6;30 pm on May 25th. We will have a full day in Prague on 26th and leaving around 12:15 pm on 27th.

Anyone have a good suggestion what we can do? First time to be there, very excited.

Thank you!

Good evening Clara,

I always recommend that first time visitors take a guided tour, as a way of getting a sense of the layout and history of the city, as well as good tips from the guide for where to go and what to see if your own time.

As a general rule, do the Charles Bridge in the early morning and the castle at night - that way you'll avoid the crowds on both.

Go see a show in one of the opera houses of the National Theatre: The Bartered Bride, Nabucco and Oliver Twist are all playing on the 26th. Bring your glad rags and go to the opera or ballet.

Soak up the atmosphere along the riverfront on Wednesday at the Naplavka, as the young Czechs gather to drink beer and play music and relax on the quayside. Have a look at the farmers' market on Namesti Jiriho z Podebrad on Thursday and check out the DOX gallery in Holesovice on Friday.

I hope that this helps.

Welcome to Prague.

It is not a lot of time for such a wonderful city but if that is all you have just make the best of it.
Marcus makes some great suggestions and I love the area down by Naplavka, there are several little pop up bars there at that time of year and it really does get you away from the tourist crowds.

Have a look at this link, it suggest various things to do and you could maybe mix and match something to suit yourselves.
where are you staying?

I have booked an apartment in Old town (I believe), very close to the Charles bridge and old town square. My booked the apartment from booking.com and it can be cancelled.

If I arrive at the airport, which is the best area i should stay? I am planning to take a metro.

that's sounds like a good area to stay in,I have used booking.com a lot for hotels and never had a problem.
Can you tell us exactly where you apartment is as there could be several options for you by public transport.Therer is no direct metro from the Airport and you might have to do a combination of things but letting us know where you are staying allows us to give you the options.
A private shuttle is not expensive and you can get a hassle free journey to your accommodation.
I use this company when in Prague.

actually run by an American and his Czech wife.

Thank you Unclegus!

I might try the private car service you recommended. Do you have any good local restaurants on your mind? In the old town square area...

Thanks again!

Clara Old town area is quite large and places that I have enjoyed a meal in the general area are ,
U Medvidku (they have just redone their kitchen and menu but have not been in since) .

Bredovsky Dvur just up from the Mucha museum, had fantastic venison in there last month.

On Narodni are a couple of place I enjoy

hope this helps but there are 100's of places to try, when I am in the city I do tend to eat much further away from the center and do enjoy the many places in the Dejvice area where I normally stay.

Unclegus,

Sadly U Medvicku has changed for the worst; we have actually taken it off our map. I think it is best avoided.

that is sad Marcus, it was always a fall back place for me when in the city, never an out and out favourite but always a place for some decent food and good Budvar.
