Number of nights in Cesky Krumlov and day trips from Prague

After spending 5 nights in Prague, we want to visit Cesky Krumlov before we head to Vienna. We plan to take the Bean Shuttle to CK. Looking for recommendations on how many nights to spend in CK? Things that were especially worthwhile to do there...places to dine and accommodation suggestions? We would also welcome suggestions for day trips from Prague. Thanks to all!

I do not usually recommend many 2 night stays on a trip, but this is one where I think 2 nights is ok. You've got a pretty short ride in from Prague, so you'll have afternoon of night 1 to wander. Then you'll have all of day 2 to check out the town. Then you'll take the shuttle to Vienna the next morning, which is also a pretty short ride.

I was happy we visited CK, but I felt like 2 nights was enough to see this charming town.

We just did this route in December. I don't usually ever stay only 1 night in a town but this one we did. For the time of year I feel we got to see everything in 1 afternoon and evening. If it was summer and there were activities to do I would say you could fill up one more day with them. Using the Bean shuttle we were in town by 1pm I would say. Its a very small town so you can quickly cover it doing Rick Steves walking tour within an hour. We also toured the castle and did a pretty long hike out of town up to a church to watch the sunset. We had dinner in town at a little Italian restaurant and went to Zapa Bar- which was SOOOO COOL after dinner. Got up and left the next morning. I actually didn't feel rushed and was ready to go. We stayed at Hotel Zlaty Andel. I loved it. HUGE rooms! Hope this helps.

We spent a few nights at the Hotel Konvce and it was nice. Our room was large, the breakfast buffet offered many choices. It is located very near the main square. We spent our time just walking around, visited the castle gardens but gave the castle a pass. We went in May and spent nearly one entire day paddling a canoe down the river, stopping at a waterside restuarant for grilled sausages and beer, and returned via their van. The livery is maybe a 10 minute walk from the hotel. They offered a few itineraries; we took the young woman's suggestion and had a fun day. It is a very easy paddle. Leaving Cesky, we took CK Shuttle to the Linz station where we boarded a train for our next destination, Salzburg. Have a great trip.

We stayed there for two nights and very much enjoyed. For reasons I cannot recall now, we did not do the paddle around the river, although it looked like fun. Lots of people were out enjoying that. I think two nights is the right amount, but you could also see the entire town and castle in a long afternoon and evening. We took a hike up a hill on the outskirts of town on the way of the crosses or something like that. We enjoyed that. Also, we stayed in a guest house that was in the Rick Steves book that was great. Right on the river. It included breakfast. And it was somewhere around 40 dollars a night.
