[Need Help] 3 days in Prague itenerary

Dear All,

My Husband and I in our 30’s arriving Prague from Switzerland by Flight on 6th of Apr 2019, Saturday 2 P.M and leaving my flight on Tuesday evening 7 P.M.
Sat to Tue, we basically have 2 full days. We are planning to explore by foot.

Is there sufficient time for :
1. Prague castle
2. St Vitus Cathedral
3. Prague old town
4. Charles Bridge
5. Petrin Hill
6. Cruise at the river

Thanks!

Yes, I think that's all do-able in 2 full days, but they will be very full days. Prepare for lots of walking and lots of crowds. Get an early start at the cathedral - tips to mitigate the worst of the crowds are in Rick's book.

The first four will have you in Tourist Central, so brace for that. The bridge can be absolutely wall-to-wall people--memorable, but not in the right way.

I think it was recently mentioned that there is a great deal of construction on Petrin Hill, so this might not be a good time to visit. With luck one of our Prague experts will come along and either comfirm that or correct me.

If you stay in the old town, you can just cross the Charles Bridge to get over to the Castle and Cathedral complex. I would explore the old town a little bit Saturday afternoon/evening, then get an early start Sunday morning. Walk over the Charles Bridge and admire it. There is Sunday mass at 8:30 a.m. at St. Vitus Cathedral. They won't let you in just to take photos and look around, so you'll need to stay for mass (just tell the guards at the front that you are going to mass). But if you get there at little before 8:30, you'll have a bit of time to explore quietly, then listen to the mass and still look around (from your seat). I'm not religious, but I enjoyed this and it was nice to see the inside without a throng of tourists. Then after the mass ends, explore the castle complex. I would highly recommend the Lobkowicz museum, which is basically in the castle complex. That is a really full, packed morning. Grab lunch nearby (we enjoyed the Klasterni Pivovar), and you'll still have more time to enjoy the castle area or whatever else you want to do. Then with your remaining days, you'll have more than ample time to explore the rest of Prague and hit the remainder of your must-do list.

We are planning to explore by foot.

You might consider taking Tram 22 up the hill to the Castle complex to save time and get there early in the morning for your visit to St Vitus Cathedral. Then walk downhill from the Castle complex, make your way across the Charles Bridge and into the old town. It saved me time and energy getting up to the castle. I walked over 14 miles that day ….you'll still have plenty of opportunity to explore by foot!

The RS book has details of which tram stop to use.

you have plenty of time to do what you want to do and maybe fit in quite a few other things. Prague is a real walkable city and has been suggested take the 22 tram up the hill to the castle complex. there is also the 23 tram as well as the 22 tram that goes up there now.
The area around the Petrin Tower has all been renovated though there is still work being done there, I was in the area a couple of weeks ago , worth taking the funicular up the hill to the Tower,I am not sure what other things will be available but looks like a new restaurant in being built and should be open soon ,easy to walk over to the Strahov area from there and that is a great area to visit , just a few minutes walk down the hill to the castle area. One thing to note is that there are quite a few of the museums and sites closed on a Monday so check first to avoid disappointment.

Both Marcus that runs naked tours and Jason that does Living Prague tours sometimes come on the forum and offer their expert advice.

Quick Tram Tip. If you're here in April and you take the tram to the Castle then most guides will say get off at the "Prazsky Hrad" stop. But that will start getting fairly big queues at that time of year so, get off one stop earlier at "Kralovsky Letohradek" and that entry generally has a small queue or no queue. Then you've got a nice walk through the Imperial Gardens before you come out at the Powder Bridge. When you get into the 2nd courtyard (via Pacassi Gate) you'll see the ticket office on your right. If it has a queue then turn left into the third courtyard and you'll find another ticket office just around to your right next to the post office. If you're fit enough then consider buying a ticket to the Great South Tower. Best view in the city. Aim for a evening cruise (from 8pm) and if you want food to be the main part of the cruise then look for "Sweet Prague".
