Hello Fellow travelers,
Has anyone experienced the National museum in Prague. I know they have other museums, but heard that this one is really nice and worth seeing. We are going in August of next year so I may try to fit this in. Larry
It’s on my list for my March trip. I can tell you about it afterwards. :-) My sister is a huge Gustav Klimt fan and wants to see the painting they have.
Sounds nice, and hope you have a nice time.
I was there last December and really enjoyed my visit. It was quite busy (kids on school field trips), but the crowds spread out quickly. The audio guide was very helpful.
There are several branches of the National Museum in Prague. The only one I've visited is the Veletrzni Palac, which covers art from 1800 to 1938 - very good collection including some important French material, as well as Czech and Slovak, in an old trade fair building that is itself a major example of inter-war modern architecture.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I've visited only two museums in Prague: the Mucha Museum and the national technical museum in Letná Park. The technical museum actually is fascinating. But the Mucha Museum was disappointing to me. Very small and limited in scope. (I'm a huge fan of Alfons Mucha, and I plan to visit Moravský Krumlov to see the Slav Epic when I return to Czechia.)
Want to thank every one for the reply’s. Very appreciated.
Bit of confusion here. The National Museum is the single building at the top of Wenceslas Square so if you go here download their app as it's a really good resource for exploring and buy your ticket online from nm.cz to skip the queue. Allow 3 hours. Any reference to art on this thread is the National Gallery (or abbreviated to NGP) which is spread out over 5 different locations in the city.
Bit of confusion here.
Yup. That was me. :-) Sorry. I was talking about the National Gallery (Fair Trade Palace location).
topgunlc85, I also have the National Museum on my list. I always write a trip report after my trips. Hopefully, I will have some good info. to share on both museums.
Jason, thanks for the tip on buying the tickets.
Another little tip. I said the National Museum is the single building at the top of the square which the original part. They've also taken over the old Radio Free Europe building next door. So if you go to the National Museum, enter via the newer building. It's also the entry for disabled people and you go through the underground passage to access the older building.
