Munich to Prague train tickets on Czech website

When looking at tickets for the 9:01 train from Munich to Prague on the DB Bahn website and the Czech website, I'm finding that the fares are significantly cheaper on the Czech website. Am I looking at it wrong? I'm looking at dates for mid November and the DB Bahn website doesn't show any reduced fare, but I can get the ticket for about $25.00 (U.S.) on the Czech website.

We want to take the train - I know there are busses that take less time, but my husband doesn't want to take the bus.

Have you purchased tickets from the Czech website? Easy to do? Print at home?

Thanks for your help

Sue,

I am traveling the same route next week. I decided to take a shot at purchasing the ticket from the Czech web site and it was easy. You have to give them your travel document (passport) number and name. They give you a PDF to print out once you have made your purchase. It was 540 Czech Krona or $25.30 at today's rate.

For some reason, tickets from Czech Rail, in Koruna, are significantly less that the same route from German Rail.

For instance, Bayerische Eisenstein and Zelezna Ruda Alzbetin share a station that straddles the Czech German border. In Zelezna Ruda you can buy a ticket to Prague for 287 Kc, the equivalent of 10,40€. A few steps over the border in Germany, the same ticket (same train) from German Rail is 31,20€. Go figure!

Note that you can get a slightly cheaper fare by buying a Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket for 2 at an automat in Munich for 30,50€ ($39.50, $19.75 each for two). That ticket will cover you on the same train to Pilsen. Once in the Czech Republic, you should be able to purchase Czech Rail tickets from the conductor for about 100 Kc ($4.70/person). That's about $24.50 per person. And you can pre-purchase the Pilsen to Prague ticket from the eShop for 95 Kc ($4.45) per person.

Just arrived in Prague yesterday taking the Munich - Prague train and used my ticket purchased from the Czech website. No problem with the ticket. It was checked four times on the travel and quickly stamped each time. I did need to show my passport once to match the name on the ticket but otherwise no issues.

Sue,

I took that leg on my first hop a couple weeks ago. Bought via CZ web site.

No problems.

Thanks for the update. I'm still waiting to buy our tickets. We do that part of our trip starting December 9th and evidently you can't get tickets on the CZ website until about 60 days ahead of time.

Thanks again.
