Mikulov wine region recommendations needed

We are retired school teachers who are planning a trip to the Mikulov wine region with another couple in late October/early November. At this time we anticipate spending 3 nights in Mikulov and 3 nights in Lednice to give us adequate time to explore the area. Is this enough time? Too much? Can you recommend wines/wineries that we should try to learn about prior to our visit? Will we need to rent a car or can we get around with public transportation/walking/biking? What are the best things, other than wineries, that we can do?

We are hoping to find a tour guide for one day. Recommendations?

I would aim to be in Mikulov for St. Martin's Day on November 11, as the town has a St. Martin's festival.

Also, the Open Cellars Festival* takes places this weekend, which I really highly recommend. Basically there about 40 wineries spread out over a couple of villages (centred on Mikulov), with endless tastings in each and bus transport is provided between the villages. I was there with a group last year and it was really terrific.

*The website currently has details of a festival that will take place in April, but it will update with the details of the November festival nearer the time.

Six nights is probably too much, especially as it already cold and dark at that time of the year, and the castles will only be open on weekends. Brno is really worth spending a night or two in. Make sure that you go the Villa Tugendhat (book it now, it sells out months in advance) and the Moravian karst cave system.
