Mikulov visit in March/Czech Republic

Hello! I am very excited about my first post on Rick Steves! My husband and I are traveling to Czech Republic at the end of March. We love visiting wine areas when we travel and I am looking at traveling from Prague to Mikulov. I am struggling with if there are wine cellars open in March. It appears that the castle is closed in March. Can you help? Are cellars open in March? Any recommendations? We love touring historical sites and I would love for recommendations in what historical sites to visit. Also, any thoughts on where to stay? Thanks for your help! Happy traveling

Mikulov Castle opens the last weekend of March, so, unfortunately, it looks like you will miss out on that. Still, you can walk around the grounds, and visit the Holy Hill.

Valtice is very spectacular and it opens on Friday to Sunday, in the second half of March. Also, Lednice looks like it will be open on Saturdays and Sundays.

There will be lots of small wineries in the Milukov - Valtice - Lednice triangle, so you won't have any trouble getting wine.

Vranov nad Dyjí is my favourite castle in the Czech Republic, for reasons that will become apparent as soon as you go there. It opens for the season on the last weekend of March.

I visited for 3 nights in September 2018 and stayed at Pension Baltazar. Very cute rooms and I even had a fireplace and a nice sitting area. They sell local wines there also, so one night I got a bottle of wine and had a picnic in my room for dinner. I did some hikes in the area and it was a great place to relax and put my feet up after a long day.
