Malá Strana for Hotel in October?

Hi! Newbie to the forum!

I've never been to Prague, but we are looking at staying at the Mandarin Oriental in Malá Strana in late October. I head briefly read that this area is close to many things but a bit more quiet than other areas. Would anyone recommend Malá Strana? Also, after looking at a map, it seems like we'd have to cross a river to get to part of the city. Is this easy/walkable? If so, how long does it take?

Thanks!

Prague has two or if I count Hradcany three medieval neighborhoods. The other two: Mala Strana and Stare Mesto (Old Town). Old Town is flat, Mala Strana is hilly. Mala Strana especially where your hotel is located is much quieter than most of Old Town. The most popular sights are in these three medieval neighborhoods. It is walkable from your hotel to the Old Town - and scenic - across the Charles Bridge. After 9 to 10 am the bridge becomes very crowded. The walk depending how fast you walk and to which location in the Old Town could take between 15 to 45 minutes. Very close to your hotel is a street car stop Hellichova where you have a choice of boarding several street cars to different parts of the city. I recommend scenic walk at least once preferably before 9 am to avoid crowds.

Thank you for the quick reply! Do you think those 3 medieval neighborhoods are preferable to stay in if we only have 4 days there and don't speak the language?

Almost all young people speak English in Prague and all people in tourist business speak English. If you want to save money then hotels of the same quality in other neighborhoods are generally cheaper.
