We will be in Prague July 11-18th for a medical meeting, on the last full day before we leave we have the whole day off and we were considering taking a day trip to another town, please gives suggestions as to the place two adults would enjoy who love castles, old churches, and historical places. Thanks!
easy day trips on your own would be Kutna Hora or Tabor both would hit the spots for you.
I enjoyed Kutna Hora as a day trip. I used a local tour company (Sandemans) that took the train. I had a horrible guide (hopefully that has been remedied) but enjoyed the sights and seeing a bit of countryside. Since you're there in high heat season, you might consider one of the tours that uses a private (air conditioned) van for transport - the local train was very hot and I was there in May.
Churches -> Kutna Hora (St. Barbara, Sedlec monastery and bone church)
Historical places -> Kutna Hora, Tabor, Litomerice, Karlovy Vary, Dresden
Castles -> Karlstejn, Königstein fortress
Museums -> Dresden
Nature -> Bohemian/Saxon Switzerland
Cant believe that no one included Cesky Krumlov in the list? Here is Cesky K. and a few of the other places mentioned:

Plzen would be my choice. Its a lot less touristy.
personally I think Ceske Krumlov is a bit long for a day trip especially as it is their last day. lovely place but it would be an early start and a late finish.
I love Plzen, been there many times but I usually go for the brewery and the brewing museum but there are some vey interesting place in the city as well.
It is possible to do an organised day trip that takes in Karkstejn castle and the Plzen brewery which might make an interesting day out

Visiting CK means spending 6 hours on a bus.
Or 2.5 hours by car or 3 hours by shuttle. Geeeee, come on guys. Oddly enough one of the most popular day trips out of Prague for some reason. But, yes, I would probably take the 4:30 shuttle and spend the night, returning late afternoon the next day if that worked with all the other plans. Cost on Bean Shuttle is 35 euro each way. The first time we hired a guide there and back. Saw one castle on the way down and another on the way back. Beautiful country between Prague and Cesky K. well worth the investment in time and money.
Cesky Krumlov is an awesome place to go.
It must be an awesome place to go, everyone goes there.
Terri Lynn, so, just how much have you traveled? And how did you manage to make that happen?
