Hi, am planning a trip in October... I would appreciate any suggestions on this rough draft of possible itinerary. Have never been to these 3 cities. Possible 11 to 14 days in total. Please advise if we should spend more or less time in each city. Will probably work in some day trips in each city where it makes sense to do so....
Travel to Munich--3-4 nights in Munich
Train to Prague--3-4 nights in Prague
Train to Vienna--3-4 nights in Vienna
Travel back to USA.
Thank you so much for any input and suggestions!!
Karen
I like your itinerary as a sampler: you'll learn which cities you'd like to return to!
Prague: I spent 3 full days and saw my list of highlights. A side trip to Cesky Krumlov was an additional 2 nights. I'm planning a return trip to take day trips to places like Terezin and Kutna Hora.
Vienna: I spent nearly 4 days and only saw my very top list of must sees. I elected not to take a day trip that I had considered because I wanted to keep the time for Vienna. As it is there are many more things I'll plan for a return trip.
Definitely make it a 14-day trip. Eleven days would be painfully short for those cities, all the more if that includes the two days for crossing the Atlantic.
Time needed in Munich, especially, depends on whether you plan side-trips, as many people do.
I think that you have a good plan as far as time goes. 3-4 nights is my normal stay in cities like that because there's so much to see. That much time allows me to slow down and not be rushing thru things, and yet it leaves me with reasons to return as you can't see it all.
My advice is pick out the one thing you absolutely must do in each location and focus on making sure that gets done. Anything else is just a bonus.
I've done that exact trip, time and order, and had a great time. Remember you can easily fly into Munich and out of Vienna, no need to travel back to the starting point.
Thanks so much to all who replied! I appreciate your feedback and ideas! Karen
I WOULD DO LESS TIME IN MUNICH AND ADD THE DAYS TO VIENNA. LOTS TO DO AND SEE THERE.
ENJOY YOUR TRIP
