Itinerary Suggestions: Prague for a Day

From your other post, it seems like all you are doing is racing through as many cities as possible.

You'll be seeing more of the countryside from trains/buses/car windows than actual places.

But to each his own.

My suggestion is a walking tour of the old town. I've done this with Living Prague Tours and it was excellent.

For my first day in Prague, I integrated a couple of walking tours in the Rick Steves Prague guide with a walking tour from the Honest Guide YouTube channel. The former hits the "big sites;" the latter offers some off-the-beaten-path, local-recommended sites along the way. I spent about 6 hours walking, stopping to look at things of interest, and just generally wandering.

From the Honest Guide video: I recommend stopping in at Kolacherie to try the traditional Czech sweet, koláč. The cubist coffee shop across the street is very cool, too (I visited it later in my trip). I recommend popping into the Karolinum Bookshop. What is a better souvenir from Prague than an English copy of a Kafka book bought in a Prague bookstore?

The Honest Guide videos that deal with travel in Prague are wealth worth watching (though it sounds like you are going to a lot of places and may not have a lot of time to watch videos for one locale). If you do try to catch some videos, skip the scammer videos -- they are not so helpful.

We enjoyed a 4 hour private tour of Old Town on our last day in Prague in late June. Even in the heat, Vaclav made the city come alive with his vast knowledge and entertaining stories. He was willing to alter the route based on what we wanted to see.

Hello all, thank you very much for all the comments, you are all extremely helpful! I'll be taking this trip as a reward for taking the bar exam in a few weeks time. As you can imagine, law school was NOT cheap, so I am limited on money and that's why this trip is far shorter than I would like. But, before I actually start in the work force I wanted to say I did some backpacking across parts of Europe and I hope this trip will help me figure out where to take some longer trips in the future.
