Is Vienna-Braislave-Prague reasonable in 7 days?

Hello,

Planning on flying into Vienna on July 7th, traveling to Bratislava and flying out of Prague on July 13th. Is that a reasonable travel schedule?

Thank you, so much, for the info! Please keep it coming. My husband is from Slovakia which is why we plan to stop in Bratislava.

Definitely. Bratislava can be a day-trip of your Vienna time.

For this length of visit, I'd definitely keep Bratislava as a daytrip. It saves you moving hotels and also makes your Vienna sightseeing plan more flexible, in case you later decide that something else takes priority over Bratislava.

yes Bratislava as a day trip from Vienna is a good idea I would not spend a lot of time there, my next door neighbour is from there and he does not rate it .

Before we dismiss Bratislava out of hand - and let's face it the oft-repeated "it's only worth a day trip", is a pretty damning verdict on the capital city of any country - it is worth looking at some of the alternative tours and unique experiences that are offered there. Yes, Bratislava may be incredibly ugly on first glance, but that just means that you have to scratch a little harder to find the good stuff. That, after all, is what travelling is about.

Alternatively, skip Bratislava altogether and instead spend a night in the delightful Moravian city of Brno. It's halfway between Prague and Vienna and is affectionately known as "the largest village in Moravia" by the locals. Brno is as relaxed as it is charming, with none of the mass tourism that is inflicted on Prague.

Be aware, Prague will process over 100,000 tourists each day in July, so there is something to be said for the quieter cities of Bratislava and Brno.

Ha,
Yes, I love Brno. It has a nice compact old town square still functioning as a market. Fine inexpensive Czech food can be found on that square. Not only that, but it is large college town. A lot of young energetic Czechs. Plus Gregor Mendel did his work in Brno and his monastery is open for tours. It was interesting to see the order form he filled out for his peas. YES, he ordered his peas! Last I looked you can stay in that same monastery.

Then it is a quick ride to Praha.

Hold on here. I can't believe I'm reading presumably sensible people supporting the notion that in 6 days (you did say you're flying out on the 13th), you can do justice to 3 cities, 2 of which are incredibly rich in history and culture. I know everyone is different, but this seems madness to me. We spent a week last year in Vienna and went back this year for 5 more nights. We also spent 5 nights this year in Prague. Even though they're close, moving from one to the other will consume half a day. If you can't extend your time, haven't yet bought plane tickets, and are committed to Bratislava, my advice is to can one of the bigger cities.

We did two nights each in Vienna, Prague and Budapest including a half day trip to Bratislava. It's very doable. You will still have a great trip and get a good taste of the cities. Not everyone has the luxury of taking two or three weeks off at a time.
