Is Prague to Munich via overnight in Regensburg a good idea?

Want to know whether this is a good idea or not. I need to get from Prague to Munich.

When in munich, i was planning to day trip out to regensburg in one of my days there. Then i realised that regensburg is on the way to munich. Does it make sense for me to stay overnight there and then take the train the next day to Munich? I will have a suitcase with me sowill need to find a hotel near regenburg and drop off my luggage before I can explore.

Or am i better just to head directly to munich and settle down. Then take the train to regenburg on another day as a full day activity.

The first option will save me about 3 hours but I then i have to deal with the fuss of check in check out.

Personally I think that's a great idea.

If you look at Google maps you will see the hotels which are close to Regensburg HbF- one I see within a stone's throw is a Holiday Inn Express (so should be of dependable quality) but there are at least 5 others within a few minutes walk. Look each of them up on Trip Advisor and make your choice.

Thank you.

I've been thinking about this further. When in Munich, I'm planning to day trip out to nuremberg too.

With this is mind, I think the better option will be to do Prague -> Nuremberg -> Regensberg -> Munich

Thinking of
Day 1 - Prague - Nuremberg - Regensberg (to stay the night so that when we wake up, we can explore)
Day2 - Regensberg - Munich

What are the options for Prague to Nuremberg? Flix bus takes 3.5 - 4 hours and train takes 5 hours!!! I don't think I can handle 5 hours lol.

Is Flix bus a good option here?

Assuming we get on the early bus, should be in Nuremberg before noon. Explore for 6 hours and take the train to Regensberg. Should get there by 7:30.

I was thinking of doing Nuremberg -> Regensberg -> Munich on the Deutcheland Ticket.

Or should i do the other way around Prague -> Regensberg -> Nuremberg -> Munich

There are no direct trains from Prague to Nuremberg. You have to change trains either in Schwandorf (from the Prague-Munich train to a regional train) or in Cheb (which is the more scenic route), and currently also in Marktredwitz due to construction work. The only direct route is by bus. From June, there will be the RegioJet again in addition to Flixbus. There is no difference in quality between them.

If you have a Deutschlandticket, you can use it on the train from the border station, i.e. you only need a ticket from Prague to Furth im Wald or from Prague to Cheb. The DT is valid both on the ALX from Furth im Wald and on the RE from Cheb.

I don't see much difference between your two routes. A good hotel near the train station in Regensburg is the Hotel am Peterstor, quietly located on the edge of the old town.

Thank you for that.

I was also worried about the transfer, so hence thought going to Regensberg first is a better idea as it is direct and don’t need to lug my luggage to the next train in a rush as the transfer is very short.

Then I will take train to Nuremberg the next day and then either stay a night or head to Munich.

Can I confirm that as soon as I reach Regensberg, the deutcheland ticket will cover me all the way to Munich provided I take the regional trains?

The train to Regensberg from Prague, which station do I buy the ticket to to the furthest border station. Can I do this on cd.cz (seems to be cheaper than Deutschebahn) ?
