How to get Koruna currency?

I will be in Prague for about two days with a tour group. I will be on my own for transportation from the hotel to the central train station. In an earlier question I asked, I was told that having the hotel get a taxi for me is the best option to get to the train station myself. Would I need to pay the taxi driver with cash or will they take a credit card? If I need cash, Koruna, can I get cash by using an ATM in Prague? If so, is that the best way to get cash or should I use another method?

You may need to confirm with hotel what arrangement they made. Last time I did similar (but not in Prague) the charge went to my room bill.

See what the hotel may tell you. Will they manage the charge? Does the transfer service take credit card? Do you need Koruna? Or do they prefer Euros? All are possibilities, but start with the hotel. But yeah, the easiest would be to just use an ATM to get $50 worth or so of Koruna, and have that for back-up.

At an ATM in Prague, I had a guy who wanted to “help” me use it. I told him, “No Thank You!”

Using the ATM is easy and not a concern, but as with anywhere else, keep an eye out for anyone hanging around nearby. You won’t need help pulling out the cash.

Hello from Wisconsin,

Use an ATM just like you would at home. Of course what comes out of the machine is local currency. When we made our first foray into the Czech Republic I was worried about getting cash into our hands. That was 1995 or so. Turns out, even then, they had more ATMs around than we did in the US. In parts of Prague they even had motion sensors on their street lights. When you went to sleep it was dark.

You could ask at your hotel which ATM offerings have the lowest fees.

Behind the Iron Curtain made us think they were stuck in black and white when actually they were living in color.
