In April we're spending 8 days in Prague (where we've never visited) and Vienna. Is a three-day stay enough for Prague or should we add one more day there?
It depends on what you’d like to see and do.
For my upcoming trip next month, I have 3 nights in Vienna, 3 nights in Prague, followed by 6 more nights in Vienna.
Almost everywhere we go, we like wandering around Old Towns and visiting art museums and galleries, and special places like Schoenbrunn and other castles.

I think so. Then I would do a night in Cesky Krumlov.
We spent three nights in Prague, glad we’ve seen it but don’t have any desire to return.

Based on this, I think 3 nights Prague and 5 in Vienna would be the way to go. In that 5 days spend 1 day in Melk.
I personally would split the time evenly between the cities. Both are full of culture, architecture and history. I highly recommend checking out the concert and opera schedules in Prague before you visit, as the opportunities can be a little overwhelming.
Keep in mind that Prague is much less expensive than Vienna. Cuisine is on the whole more refined in Vienna.
Are you arriving in Prague from the US? If you're counting that arrival day as one of the days in Prague, then you really only have 2 days there. It's a good idea to count nights versus days.
Two similar big cities. I second the idea of stopping in Cesky Krumlov (or somewhere else on the way) and seeing something other than big city sights.

But the beer is more refined in Prague. STILL 2 full days, maybe 3 at the outside is my limit for Prague Tourism.
Thanks.
We've been to Vienna so often that it feels like or second home, and despite all the praise, we have doubted that Prague is better. BUT there's only one way to know for sure - visit Prague. We've settled on three days in Prague, one day travelling to Vienna by train and then four full days in Vienna. I look forward to making the comparison.
For what it's worth, in Vienna we'll rent a car for a day or so and head westward for a day trip, starting with the Wienerwald.
Comments welcome!
I'll post a separate question about the train travel.
I look forward to making the comparison.
Like comparing apples and grapefruit
Neither is better, just different. If you want better you have to go to .... naaaa .... won't say it. LOL
