How many days for Prague vs Budapest?

Hello. We are going to Prague and Budapest in November. We will be there 11/18-11/26. How many days would you recommend to stay in Prague vs Budapest? I was thinking 4 and 4, but some recommend 5 and 3. We are interested in seeing as much as we can in Prague and the surrounding areas (castles). What type of itinerary would you suggest it being November (possibly raining?). We are not into pubs or clubs, so mostly historical sites, nice restaurants...Same goes for Budapest plus the theater ( I am hoping at least 2 nights) and the night river cruise.
Thank you in advance.
Elina.

I would recommend four days for each. Don't count the day you land; you will have jet lag. Read R.S.books: Prague & the Czech Republic, Budapest. This website will give you some ideas: http://www.pragueexperience.com

Definitely split it down the middle...there is plenty to see in both places!

I would go 5-3 Prague, there is a daytrip to Kutna Hora and another day to Konopiste and Karlstejn Castles so that leaves 3 days in Prague,Budapest is spread out so you will spend some time on transit. The Opera House in Budapest is a must visit with a very good tour.

I agree that a 5-3 split is better. much more to see and do around Prague than Budapest. We enjoyed both cities, but Prague is just more interesting for us. When is Budapest, make sure to take one of the walking tours to help gather it in. Also recommend a guide at the castle in Prague.

I recommend 5 and 3. If you are going to a river cruise and theatre in Prague, then 5 is great. If the river cruise and theatre is in Budapest then choose 4 and 4. We just came back from Prague and Budapest in October where we spent 4 nights, 5 days in Prague and 3 nights in Budapest. We were jet lagged in Prague but didn't seem to matter. Followed Rick S's itinerary and wished we had more time (another day or 2) in Prague. We took the fast train from Prague to Vienna for 4 days, then fast train to Budapest for 3 days. We walked everywhere (took bus when it rained or up to the palace in Buda to save time). We stayed in the old town or center in each place. Rick's walking podcasts were excellent and while we loved Budapest and want to go back we were able to get almost everything done during the 3 days. With all the cities, we looked over Rick's itinerary and chose the walking podcasts and the 3 diamond must sees. Enjoy!

Susannedadson,
Thank you so much! We will be 5 full days in Prague and 4 full days in Budapest. Where do you get the podcasts you were describing? What company did you use for the river cruise or are they everywhere? Did it have dinner? Did you gobto a theater in Prague, Budapest or both/none?
Thank you!!!
