Hotel Europa in Prague open?

As a fan of art nouveau, I was really looking forward to seeing the interior of the Hotel Europa in Prague. I heard there was a restaurant or cafe where you could eat, but I understand it is closed. Can anyone offer an update? Thank you -

It seems to be closed according to TripAdvisor. Too bad. We had the most amazing lunch there in 1990, when the country was still part of the USSR. I think it cost us US$25 for a five course meal, with wine and ending with an enormous brandy snifter of very fine brandy. Which just goes to prove that even Communists enjoyed the finer things in life while the grocery stores were almost devoid of anything but bread, The restaurant was beautiful, the service impeccable. I suspect, however, that the rooms were not quite as impressive, and probably were of the bathroom down the hall variety. The only restaurant I have been in that is as beautiful is La Fermette in Paris.

I think it has been closed for a year or so now, I will ask one of my friends in Prgaue what they know about it and get back to you.I was in Prague less than 2 weeks ago but was not in the area around the hotel.

Thank you Unclegus for checking with your friend. I enjoyed the video very much too, thanks! I guess I'll have to plan a return visit to Prague someday when the hotel is open.

have you ever done a tour of the Municiple house in Prgaue, wonderful Place, I always pop in there for a quick look or sometime a drink in one of the bars when I am in the city.

Czechoslovakia was never part of the USSR. Behind the Iron Curtain, yes, but never in the USSR.

Good afternoon Judy,

As the Europa is closed at the moment, your Art Nouveau dining options are reduced to the Municipal House and the Cafe Imperial. The Municipal House is nice (but eye-wateringly overpriced), so I recommend that you check out the magnificent Art Nouveau restaurant in the Cafe Imperial. Their buffet breakfast is absolutely stellar, hands down the best in town. You will need a reservation (and loose fitting clothing).

In fact, it is a good idea to book a hotel without breakfast, and instead make a breakfast circuit to all of the grand old cafes - Savoy, Slavia, Louvre and Grand Orient all do great breakfasts in unique and unusual surrounds, but the Imperial is ahead of them by a mile.

Enjoy!
