help with itinerary Prague and beyond

We arrive in Prague on October 20 where we meet our daughter who is studying there for the semester. She has the next full week to travel with us. We need to beck in Prague to meet the rest of our family on October 28. Our plan is to see Prague from Oct-28 for 3-4-5 days. We then have time to travel until we need to back in Prague for an early November 6th flight out. Our wish lists of countries /cities include Vienna, Salzburg, Budapest, Switzerland, we would also consider Berlin....Preference would be to travel by train but will consider flights if needed. Would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Your question is not very clear. OK, you arrive to Prague October 20th. Which day you want to start travel beyond Prague? Then you are back Oct.28th. 3 to 5 days in Prague, right? Logistically on your one week between 21 and 28th October (if I got it right) you can do Vienna and Budapest. In your 3 to 5 days in Prague you can see Prague and Cesky Krumlov. Between Nov. 1st and 5th you can go to Berlin and stop on the way in Dresden. I am afraid that Salzburg and Switzerland would have to be postponed. Not the best weather there anyway.

We arrive in Prague at noon on the 20th and could begin travel then. Yes the 28 to whenever we can be in Prague but would like to hit another country if possible before leaving on the 6th. thanks

Ilia's plan sounds good. Train to Vienna, then Budapest. Fly back to Prague. Then train to Berlin and back to Prague with a stop in Dresden for 1-2 nights (1 full day), depending on how much time you want to stay in Prague before Germany. Though on further pondering, you might skip Dresden because there is so much to see and do in Berlin.

THINKING FURTHER ABOUT BERLIN....NOT SURE WE WANT ALL LARGE CITIES ON THE ITINERARY-WOULD LIKE TO CONSIDER SALZBURG WITH MAYBE GARMISCH OR OTHER BAVARIAN TOWN FOR THE SECOND LEG OF THE TRIP. ANY THOUGHTS ?

I don't know. But what is the best about these towns - surrounding countryside - you likely won't be able to see in November.

I would worry that small towns wouldn't have much to see/do once the tourist season is over. Salzburg may be a lot smaller than Vienna or Berlin, but it is not a small town. Prague, Vienna, and Budapest are all noticeably diffreent from each other. Berlin is even more so. I think that will give you more variety than Salzburg.

Salzburg was one of the best places we have been. It is smallish and more intimate than a big city, there are lots of shops, alleyways, markets, and loads of music. If you like The Sound Of Music it's a great tour to do there. It's also close to Bavaria and the creepy Eagles Nest of Hitler fame. The food is good, the hotels are great and I would go back there in a minute.
