Help with Czech-Poland Border region, from Copenhagen

Retired Mom here, outlining a July trip for my 32-year-old daughter who lives in Copenhagen. She and her partner like hiking, wine tasting, thrift shopping, and gardens. One thing they want to avoid is seeing areas that look too much like Scandinavia. They will start by driving from Copenhagen to Berlin to stay for a few days.

From Berlin, they are looking at the Czech-Polish border near Germany. It looks like they might be interested in some things in that area, and it does not get them too far away from Copenhagen for a 7-10 day driving trip.

Does anyone know these areas? Or other sights nearby?

  • Adršpach-Teplice Rocks
  • Wang Church
  • Labsky Dul – pudlava hiking area
  • Polubenský hřib hiking area

On the return, I considered 4 days to see Quedlinburg, Harz National Park, Hamburg, and home to Copenhagen. Or are there suggestions for another route or sights for them to see?

Thank you for any ideas and input!

I'm a huge fan of Quedlinburg. It is stunning, and the tourist office rents a very useful audio guide for the town. It takes about a full day, I'd guess. The cathedral treasury is not to be missed; check Google for some interesting history on it.

Another city that escaped WWII relatively intact is Goerlitz, which is so close to the Polish border that the border cuts the town in half. The Polish part of the town is called "Zgorzelec". The German side has been more heavily renovated, making up for the neglect of the DDR years. The result is a lot of architectural eye-candy in a place so beautiful it is used for movie locations; at least part of The Grand Budapest Hotel was filmed in Goerlitz.

There's an outdoor ceramics market (Schlesischer Tippelmarkt) held in Goerlitz every summer. This year it's on July 20-21, so it would be difficult to find a hotel room in town that weekend. https://www.tippelmarkt.de/

Thank you for the feedback, acraven. I was not aware of Quedlinburg, so it is helpful to hear positive things about it. I will recommend Görlitz as a good stop for them on the way as well. Appreciate it!
