I am planning to visit Prague in early May and want to see nearby countries. What makes thr most sense. I have about two weeks. I can fly into Prague and out of another country.
There is a lot to do in the Czech Republic to fill your two weeks, but if you want to have a look at its neighbours Germany and Austria are the obvious choices: good rail connections and a lot to do.
Vienna is an interesting city and some four hours away. It's another four hours from there to Munich. Another route could be Dresden (two hours from Prague), and then with one or two stops (Bamberg, Nürnberg, Regensburg) to Munich.
The classic tour for a lot of reasons is Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Two weeks is just about correct for the trip as well. Two weeks being 16 days it works like this:
1. (Saturday) Depart the US (my guess???)
2. Arrive Prague; and I think Prague is the best of the three to begin the trip.
3. See Prague
4. See Prague
5. Take morning Bean Shuttle or similar to Cesky Krumlov
6. Take afternoon Bean Shuttle or similar to Vienna
7. See Vienna
8. (Saturday) Day Trip to Melk
9. See Vienna
10. Take morning Train to Gyor and see the Archabbey at Pannonhalma
11. Take morning Train to Budapest
12. See Budapest
13. Day trip to Szentendre
14. See Budapest
15. (Saturday) Budapest to the States
This shows you three cultures, large cities and smaller towns. None of the transfers are more than a couple of hours so you aren’t sitting in trains or busses or …….
There is one more day available to make 16 days so put it in either Budapest (my vote), Vienna or Prague as your taste dictates.
Thanks for the feedback. I think we want to start out trip in Vienna and then head to Prague and then head to Germany. We on,y have 13 days if we go to Vienna and maybe Melk for first 4 days then head to Prague for 4 days and then to Germany via Dresden toward Munich what other towns in Germany should we see. We want to have. Mix of large cities and small towns for this trip.
This could be my itinerary to have a mix of small towns and big cities with only two weeks: Vienna, Melk, Cesky Krumlov, Prague, Terezin and Litomerice, Dresden, Berlin. It is also more or less in one line without backtracking.
If you do the itinerary of your last post you can bus from Prague to Nurnburg about three hour ride in a clean modern bus from DB Rail, historic sights..Dresden has alot of history, great museums. If you want more info,I have been to all of the places that you are going, contact me off line.
