Health Insurance for traveling to Prague

I saw on the Embassy of the Czech Republic that Health Insurance for traveling there is required. Have any of you had to show proof of this. I’m a US citizen and do not require a visa.

Well, do you have health insurance? You can buy a health insurance policy targeted for this trip from a travel insurance provider if you do not.

Yes, I have health insurance that includes travel. I have never been asked for proof of this hence was wondering what evidence they ask for.

I am pretty sure that if you can show your insurance card that this would be satisfactory if they did ask. You would want to have your insurance card with you anyway.

There are different factors here. If you are going to be here long term like more than 6 months then they expect you will be paying into some local health provider system here like VZP etc. If its just a holiday then health insurance is recommended. If you were European this would be something like the EHIC which connects to your national system. For Non-EU visitors any kind of medical insurance would cover this requirement but note that you don't deal directly with the hospital. They like you to join a guarantor company like Unicare or Canadian Medical and they guarantee the hospital gets paid for any treatment. Then the guarantor company deals with you or your provider. If you have Bupa or AIA cover then you need to join the guarantor company for any non-urgent procedures or ongoing treatment.
