Can anyone recommend a good four star hotel in Prague for a women traveling alone. I like to be within easy walking distance of a metro so I can be out in the evening. Thank you
I stayed at the Iron Gate Hotel on Michalska, just a 2 minute walk to the main square and perhaps a couple of blocks to the metro, beautiful old building and my room was big--I was even upgraded to one with a separate sitting room, this was in 2015 and a friend stayed there last fall and had the same upgrade experience. Excellent breakfast and very helpful 24 hr front desk.
I stayed last summer at the Hotel Metamorphis as we were beginning our Rick Steves tour. Very large rooms with a nice breakfast - it is only 2 blocks from the Central Square in Old Town . Although I didn't pay for it myself, I saw a rate guide which indicated prices were between 120- 140 US dollars. I would recommend it - very good location for shopping and exploring the city.
Hello Anne, I can recommend to check out Hotel Josef, Moods or Hotel Hastal Prague Old Town
All hotels situated in a great location and have nice rooms and breakfast.
We stayed at Hotel Hastal last September. It was wonderful.
Thank you everyone for these suggestions.
The first thing you should do is visit the UK's Home Office web site and look up their advice on travel safety in Prague. Don't trust the US State Dept advice; it's too political.
Here's the advice our tour guide gave us on our first trip to Prague more than a decade ago: "Ladies, if you ever let go of your purse, it will be stolen. On the other hand, Prague is the safest city in the world for a woman alone on the streets, even at night women can roam the streets in total saftey."
If you wear a backpack, a pickpocket will get into it unless you have zipper locks. Your purse MUST have a thick heavy leather strap long enough that you can wear it over the opposite shoulder and under the arm pit, and a metal chain for the stop would be better.
The most important consideration in choosing a hotel is proximity to metro (a pickpocket's paradise. Hang on to your purse). The further out from Old Town you go, the lower the price, but splurge on a hotel in Old Town or the Jewish Quarter (next door to Old Town or in Mala Strana (across the river, under Prague Castle) because these areas are street walking delights (had to fight down saying a streetwalker's delight).
Get a room with buffet breakfast included. Thees are spectaular feasts, and you won't need to eat lunch.
On our 4 trips to Prague, we stayed at the Atrium Hilton (twice), President, and Intercontinental. All acceptable and all probably over priced. Best room-- President. Best location: Hilton which is one block from a major metro station and a grocery store where the $11 Czech dark beer in Hilton's mini-fridge cost 90 cents.

I have stayed in this hotel a few times , most recently just before Christmas.lovely place and is going through upgrading floor by floor. The lobby bar area was being done when I was last in and should now be complete and the main dining and breakfast areas have already been refurbished .In the Dejvicka area of the city but right next to a metro and tram stop takes about 5 minutes or so by metro to the old town and less than 15 by tram. Lovely area to stay in with numerous great bars and restaurants ,this is also where the main University campus is situated .
The breakfasts in the Diplomat are quite superb and are served from 7.00am till 10.00am. I am staying in the Dap hotel nearby there in May a very good 3 star hotel and a place I have stayed numerous times.
BTW Prague is one of the safest cities ever to visit.
