Flex Pass application to Hungary, Germany, Switzerland and Austria

We will be taking a boat that ends in Budapest, Hungary that had previously stopped in Vienna, Austria. We will travel back to Vienna by train for several days then by train travel to Austrian, German and Switzerland locations. If I activated our Flex Pass when the boat stopped in Vienna will the Flex Pass be accepted on trains moving between all four countries mentioned?

My first impression was that the pass would not be accepted on the Budapest-Vienna leg because Hungary does not have a common border with Germany and Switzerland. On the other hand Austria has a common border with all of the other countries. If the pass will work only in Germany, Austria and Switzerland is there still a three country Flex Pass available?

Those 4 countries do qualify as neighbors on a Eurail Select pass and will be named on the pass when you buy it online. There is no 3-country version this year. Once the pass is activated, it doesn't matter which direction you travel by train within any of the covered area. You can activate it in either Vienna or Budapest train station, whichever seems convenient to you. You'll get most value out of the pass if you have some long trips in your plan, such as heading north across Germany.

On a few trains in Switzerland, primarily up the Lauterbrunnen Valley from Interlaken and on a portion of the Glacier Express, the pass gives you discounts instead of full coverage; see What do passes cover in Switzerland?. Seat reservations are optional, not required, in all your countries of travel, with very few exceptions.
