Excellent free Prague/Czech cultural guidebook..

The Prague City Tourism Office (address: Arbesovo namesti 4, Prague 5) published a wonderful (+ free) 88 page book that covers a fantastic range of historical/cultural topics regarding Prague in the 20th cent.

It's called "Prague 1918-1992", it's amazingly well-researched and interesting and is absolutely not the typical well-worn tourist fare. E.g.:
- 1964 : Lemonade Joe/socialist cinema
- 1960: Kofola/communist Coca Cola
- 1951: The Favorit bicycle
- 1930: The Müller villa
- 1926 : Edison transformer station
- 1975: Kotva and Maj dept. stores
- 1986: Jaroslav Seifert, the irrepressible poet

you can still get Kofola and I always buy some when in the city, slightly aniseed taste and no where near as sweet as Coke, quite a pleasant drink.

1964: Lemonade Joe/socialist cinema. It is actually hilarious parody on western. Nothing socialist on it. If you get opportunity to see it, don't miss it.

So, if you write and request one, they will send it? Or, do you pick it up while there? Not sure I want to add an 88 page book to my bag.

Is the Tourism office the only place to get one? We will be there in 10 days (!!) and this sounds great.

No it is presumably available elsewhere as well. It is well worth finding if one is interested in "cultural history"..

I tried to find a download file, but couldn't. If you do, I'd love to know where. I am a social studies teacher traveling there this summer, so it would be very interesting. I have also set up an account for students to "travel and learn" along with me, so could definitely include some facts for them!
