Is there an actual tour inside the Estates Theatre (Prague) or do you just visit and walk around by yourself??
Good evening Teri,
It is possible to tour the Estates Theatre, but it can be difficult to organise and expensive. You will either need to have a ready-made group of up to ten people or stump up 3,400CZK (about 135 USD). Tours must be organised in advance.
Alternatively, you can just go and see a show in the theatre. The season runs from September to June, and they play Mozart regularly. If there isn't a show on that you'd like to see playing on the nights that you're here (i.e. they often stage Czech-language drama there), it is still worth getting a cheap ticket just so you can wander into the auditorium and enjoy the atmosphere.
I hope that this helps.
Marcus
I was going to say, the best way to see the Estates is for a performance. I see that in addition to the June to September schedule, they are doing Don Giovanni every night at 8 pm from July 13 to August 7. Tickets start at 1390 czk (about $60 US). Mozart conducted the first performance here in 1787. Worth it.
We bought 4 tickets to Don Giovanni in September from their website (print at home) for 2200.00 Kč. I figure it's pretty much ground zero for Mozart opera. Worked perfectly. Agreed a great way to see the theater.
