I have started my family ancestry search and it leads me to the town of Turnov. I will be in Prague in March 2019 and thought this would be a good time to go out of the city to the town of Turnov, just north of Prague, and do a little exploring. How could I get a safe tour guide for the day?
Karen, I can't answer your specific question, but I'm curious about why you feel having a tour guide for this excursion is necessary. I believe you can take a train from Prague to Turnov in under 2 hours, or rent a car and drive in under 1 hour.
Do you feel a guide would help you explore Turnov? Or simplify your travel between Prague and Turnov? Or help you with your ancestry research?
Unless you have a specific need for a tour guide, it seems like it would be easy enough to make this day trip independently. Just a thought.
I'm heading to Prague for 4 nights at the beginning of April, and considering some options for a day trip if I decide I have time and a desire to get out into the countryside. So I'm always happy to read about places where other people are going. You've given me another option to consider. Thanks!

I would contact the tourist office in Turnov. I have been there a few times first time about 25 years ago and again about 18 months ago to do some walking in the area.I would have been there again a few months ago but there is a lot of work being done on the train tracks in the area and making 3 connections just to get there meant too much time would have used up for my day trip.If travelling by train then check that there are direct trains

you can take a local train from Turnov to Hruba Skala and walk back to Turnov, takes about 3 hours but longer if you go into some of the litlle view points along the way or stop for a few refreshments. the last bit going into Turnov itself got me a bit lost but with the help of Google maps on my phone I made it ok.
Thank you for the tip, Unclegus!
