Czech Republic Itinerary

Hello again fellow RS travelers! :) My husband and I will be returning to Europe this fall for our first visit to the Czech Republic. I would appreciate any feedback on our itinerary.

Thursday Sept 19 - arrive Prague airport late evening; private transfer to hotel.

Friday Sept 20 - Old Town Bridge Tower, Taste of Prague Food Tour, Letna Beer Garden for sunset

Saturday Sept 21 - Prague Castle, Strahov Monastery, Vrtba Gardens, Lennon Wall, maybe Slovanka Boat Rental in evening (also my birthday - need to pick out a good restaurant!)

Sunday Sept 22 - Klementium Antique Market, Klementium Astronomical Tower and Baroque Library, Jewish Museum, either the Museum of Communism or the Cold War Museum (recommendations for either one?)

Monday Sept 23 - pick up rental car in morning, drive to Pilsen, go up the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew Tower, Brewery Museum Tour, Pilsen Historical Underground Tour, Great Synagogue if time, and get in the suds at the Beer Spa.

Tuesday Sept 24 - Tocnik Castle, Krivoklat Castle (I know this is a bit of backtracking; we would have visited these on the way from Prague the day before, but, both castles are closed on Mondays). Drive to Telc for overnight stay. I know it's all relative but hoping we find Telc to be worth the drive as it is a bit out of the way. If we would have more time I would also love to visit further west into CR but unfortunately, our time is limited.

Wednesday Sept 25 - visit Telc Chateau, drive to Cesky Krumlov (visit Hluboka Castle and Holasovice village on the way; maybe route through Trebon for a peek at it?)

Thursday Sept 26 - morning Wiseman Walking tour, visit the regional museum, wander and explore the Cesky Krumlov and viewpoints.

Friday Sept 27 - visit Cesky Krumlov Castle (Baroque Theater followed by Apartments Tour, Tower, Gardens). Check out the St Wenceles celebrations. Maybe do a boat rafting trip if we have time and the weather is good?

Saturday Sept 28 - drive back to Prague. See Dancing House. St Cyril and St Methodius Cathedral (I have seen suggestions to watch movies Anthropoid and Operation Daybreak related to the history here). Explore more of Prague - suggestions??

Sunday Sept 29 - fly home

Would love any thoughts, suggestions, ideas for things we may have missed. Thank you!

I would add a tour of Municipal House while in Prague. You might also add a meal and/or a concert there.

The Municipal House (Obecni Dum) is a glorious Art Nouveau building. To see the best of it, you need to take a tour. The English tours sometimes sell out, so it's smart to check the schedule as soon as you can and see whether you can buy tickets in advance. As of 2018 there was a modest extra charge for a photo permit. I very much regretted not paying that fee.

20th Letna park is on the wrong side to appreciate the sunset. Much better to go to the beer garden at Riegrovy Sady for that and sit on the hill to watch the sun set behind the castle.
21st Add Naplavka riverside market for the first thing in the morning. Then use the Lanovka to get up to the Strahov Monastery level, then the Castle (historic building close at 5pm). Vrtba gardens close at 7pm but because it's a Saturday you often cannot go in because it's reserved for weddings/receptions.
22nd Klementinum and Cold War should be booked in advance. The others you can just turn up on the day.
28th State Holiday. Definitely watch Operation Anthropoid if you are visiting STs Cyril and Methodius in Resslova Street. You can enter the church if it's open or you explore the free museum and crypt under the church which people refer to as the Heydrich terror memorial. Seeing the Dancing House is no problem but if you want to go up to the viewing deck it's worth contacting the guys at the Glass Bar to see if you'll need a reservation.
