Hi! I noticed in one of my guidebooks that Czech Independence Day is on 10/28--during which I will be in Prague. Will this affect anything (closed businesses, travel issues, etc...)? Any info is appreciated! Thanks!
no. just go with the flow
you might find the public transport runs a Sunday service which is still great and the trams will all have Czech flags on the front. otherwise no difference.
Businesses which are normally closed on Sundays will be closed. Public transport will be on Sunday schedule. Restaurants which are open on Sundays will be open. Czech flags will be everywhere. There will be some festivities and firework.
Hi,
If you want to see a reminder of that special date, go to Wenceslas Square where in front of the statue affixed on the ground are the digits : 28. X. 1918 (with a dot after the "8" and the "X" to indicate 28 Oct 1918, the date on which Bohemia-Moravia broke away from the Habsburgs. Maybe the digits 1 and 9 aren't there, can't remember exactly.
Given the historical backdrop and circumstances, I would find it very interesting to be in Prague on 28 Oct. especially next year.
