I have read that there is construction at St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague. Does anyone have updates about this?
Thanks
The base of the great tower is being renovated. Entry to the tower and to ST Vitus Cathedral is NOT affected.
I was there yesterday. The west-side north tower entry is closed so you go into ST Vitus via the west-side south tower entry. The 3 chapels on the left side by the entry are not accessible but you can still see them from a distance. Many written guides assume you explore ST Vitus in the clockwise direction but because of the entry changes you have to explore in an anti-clockwise direction (this will mess up any written guide or audioguide). Also there is currently no "free" access i.e. you used to be able to see inside without a ticket but currently you need to have the historic buildings ticket to get in.
Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.
Keep an eye on the Castle website at https://www.hrad.cz/en/prague-castle-for-visitors/opening-hours as it puts a banner across the page with any planned closures of historic sites.
Thanks very much
Any idea how long the construction will be going on?
The castle does not list any timescales and in my experience people restoring Gothic (in this case neo-Gothic) structures take as long as they feel is necessary. Compared with previous reconstructions this one is very minor.
