Thank you RJean, I tried the link but it has no dates for December. Maybe they don't release dates this early.
I am having problems finding times for travel on Christmas eve.

Morning Rjean,
Thanks again, I have found a lot of information with this link, may even take in a ballet while we're there 😄would never have thought of that without this link.
I had a look at the train times, at the moment they only go to 14th Dec.
Greatly appreciate your time and help.
Regards Lesley.

one thing to consider is that the Czechs celebrate Christmas on the evening of the 24th ,so many places close around lunchtime.not sure about transportation, hopefully Jason or Marcus who both live in the CR will come on and answer this for you.

Thank you UncleGus,
I was aware they celebrate on 24th but didn't realise they closed at lunchtime.
Hopefully the guys you mentioned will be able to assist me. I have not been able to get information about trains yet.

Both Jason and Marcus are guides in Prague and are likely to be pretty busy at the moment so not much time to come on here. I will hopefully see Jason sometime next week or the week after when I am back in Prague ,we usually try to meet up for a few beers when he finishes work for the day and I will mention this thread to him.

There will be a service but expect it to be every two hours. That's less than a Sunday service and similar to a major state holiday like October 28th. As for what will be open in Ceske Budejovice when you get there then check websites of local businesses at the beginning of December and they should have published their opening times. You do get places open in the morning but after 12pm it will be pretty quiet. Look out for the Golden Pig.

Thank you Jason, that's a great help.
I've just googled the golden pig, not sure I could fast all day, Czech good is far too good 😂
We don't mind it being quiet, we went there 2 years ago and fell for the place(especially the cocktail bar) thought it would be a great place for the festive period.

Hi Jason,
When you said places may not be open did you mean just the 24th or the whole Christmas period?

I think many places will be closed the morning of the 25th but will start reopening from around noon.

Hi Lesley,
From late morning on the 24th people will start heading home to prepare food and the Christmas tree so the moment it gets dark expect the rest of the 24th to have shops closed. We have the 25th and 26th as a state holidays but to be honest most individuals will treat it as a day off to visit relatives. You'll probably find that independent family businesses will close for the rest of the week i.e. many will take the 27th as a holiday so they basically get the 24th to the 29th off. Definitely visit the main square on the evening of the 24th as that's got the Christmas Market and will be the liveliest place around.

Thank you Jason, I really appreciate all your help. I'm thinking it would be better to go the week before Christmas now instead. In your opinion which is the best area of Prauge to stay, we love a market 😊
Kind regards Lesley

Lesley,I always go on a diet so I lose a few pounds before I head to Prague as I know I will put weight on but I am now much better with my food choices there and don't order the big meal very often.it is the beer that does it for me,I only drink at weekends when at home but in Prague I usually have a few beers every day.
